New E85 Owner + New Build

Hey everyone, I just picked up an 03 z4. After a few days owning it, the motor had a knock for some reason, I tried investigating it and thought it would be a quick fix.. Well it turned out to me pulling the entire motor.. ordered a kit to reseal and replace every gasket on the M54, and about half way through realized the 2.5i wasn’t going to be much fun as I’m used to driving 600+ Whp cars. So I picked up a 5.3 LS motor to drop into it, motor is built top to bottom, sleeved and forged, currently rated to withstand around 1300whp. (Yes I know, tons of power on a small car, that’ll be nose heavy.. etc etc). Just wanting to get some advice on transmission to go with. I currently have a 4L80e that came with the motor, I still have yet to mock everything up and see if the transmission will fit in the tunnel, my biggest concern is.. messing with the harness, I have 0 knowledge in electrical work and have no clue how to hook up a standalone harness and have it working with this transmission. If anyone has tackled this project, I’d greatly appreciate some tips and/or advice! I have a buddy who is also doing a 6.0 LS Twin Turbo on his e85. Will post pictures soon! Thanks!

Hello, I can't wait to hear more about your build. I have been contemplating dropping an LS or Mazda rotary into my 2004 E85, Z4 3.0l. Currently, I have gutted the car and am building a wide-body kit for it. All new carbon interior, new bucket seats, harness bar, shocks, etc etc.
I've been wanting to install a digital dash, but I'm having issues with the connections.
Anyway, looking forward to hearing more about your project

It’s possible to put virtually any engine into any chassis the only uncertainly is how much it’s going to cost in time and parts, having replaced the engine and gearbox the rear axle will need upgrading too,
Best of luck let us know how you get on

Welcome to the forum.

That sounds like a great project so it would be great if you posted some updates as it progresses!

Thanks, it's been a process, to say the least. I'm not in the trade and do it as a hobby, so I'm having to teach myself how to create molds out of fiberglass, vacuum bag carbon fiber, etc., etc. It's a good thing I'm not on any time schedule, or I would be in big trouble. I'm currently working on a rear cowling to cover the top when it's in the lowered position. I will be making this out of carbon fiber. The picture I have at the moment is of the fiberglass mold that I am still in the process of shaping and smoothing out before creating the carbon piece.
