New Custom Exhaust Z4M

coanda effect, now i see why my longboard gets sucked into the water moving up the face of the wave allowing me to hang ten !, well, hang five mainly, !!!!!

I personally love it  my biggest criticism of M cars is that they are far too quiet & the noise of an engine/exhaust is one of the biggest thrills for me but I know it's not for everyone, the standard exhaust on my M3 is incredibly quiet you would think it had a 1.2 engine under the bonnet & not a 4 litre V8 it takes the mickey!

I thought the same when I had my Zed & I am far from a boy racer at nearly 40 but I like an engine to display its intent

Don't get me wrong, I've modified a fair few OEM silencers in my time and my Z4MC sports them. 8) I was simply pointing out that in the case of the Z4MC, there's an aerodynamic feature besides the silencing to the OEM zorsts, which is something that I would suspect most others are not aware of. Just sayin'.

Yes I absolutely agree with you regards the aerodynamic features  as I know the rear exhaust box on my M3 was designed in the same way (I am a saddo & read everything about all my cars) but I just wish bmw would make their M cars shout a little louder as they make plenty of cars for the shy & retiring types!!

I also appreciate that the metallic rasp is a big character of the S54 & aftermarket exhausts do take a little of that away but if I had kept my Zed I think in time I would have swapped the exhaust...I am already looking to do the same on the M3 :driving:

So there are no rear silencers at all? I was thinking of longlife exhausts myself but would not delete the rear boxes, have smaller less awful looking ones made. A nicer sound would be good too.

Why don't you get hold of a discarded silencer for your car and get it "gutted"? You'll probably get a decent performance gain too. :P

Good idea  some take the extra sound deadening out of the back box & weld it back up, it would certainly be a good cheaper alternative than what's on the market :)

I've come to notice the drone of the standard exhaust is more than enough for me... Couldn't deal with more, although the extra parp-age would be cool.

Though no doubt my insurance would love to hear about it...

Yep, in fact it does get on my nerves at low speeds. Is there any aftermarket system that removes it, without being deafening?

H&S catback system. Yours for just under a grand and tuned to be less shouty than its Supersprint second cousin (twice removed).

Went to longlife about rear boxes but they couldnt give me what I wanted (slimline silencers bolt on replacement) said they would cut and shut my system meaning a return to standard was nigh on impossible without purchasing a complete system. Shame really but there you go.

Can't believe you can tolerate the noise! Took me 2km and 5mins to return to exhaust shop and have my oem boxes put straight back on after trying the same thing!

Silver grey Z4MC
Mods: Strongstrut 3 piece / CDV delete / Stormworks ST1 gearknob / clutch stop / stubby / ipod integration / LED interior / Magnaflow custom exhaust

This is what I have and it sounds awesome :)
Was the H+S system fitted by them or delivered and a DIY job?

Style Dynamics told me they'll remove the boxes, add a new system with 3'' tips and put flanges on the old boxes as well as the new so it is inter-changeable with just 4 bolts. Price; £299

I may do it next month before I go to Wales if I get the pay cheque I am waiting for... although a new set of rear tyres, some under bumper work and alloy refurbs are all needed sometime soon too... and if my maths is right I'll spend £300 or so in fuel on the trip...
