New car protection?

Getting a new white motor in a few weeks. Dealer was trying to force paint protection on me for £350 which I politely declined but thought I should really give a virgin car a bit of something special myself.

So my question to the detailing experts here is what to do with new virgin paint and wheels to give it a good protection base?

Wise choice not letting the dealer at it first, my new one is going straight to RPM Detailing when it arrives. If you check out some detailers websites you'll find out how to protect your car properly from new.

I'd either get a "new car protection detail" by a proper detail or insist the dealer doesnt even wash it before handover. If they say it will be filthy, then let them hose it down, but not touch the paintwork.

My 1st Z4 received a "light wash" and I had it detailed the next day - covered in swirls. My replacement Z4 had just a spray and hardly any swirls.

A detailer will remove the swirls as part of the service.

If you're doing it yourself, find out what product removes transit wax, then do a safe wash (2bm, washmit etc) then protect with wax/sealant.

I'm sure others will offer advice...decomtamination, clay? (on a new car?) etc etc..

I've booked my new car arriving next month in for a detail. The guy spends about 10 hours on it, finishing with a ceramic coating that's cured under IR lamps. The cost is £240 compared with £400 from the stealer for some sort of supagard crap applied by an apprentice with a Brillo pad.
