New Battery

 End of A590 cul de sac (South Cumbria)
For a couple of weeks now the car has been a bit sluggish on starting if left for a few days

Looking at the battery condition view port it was black, no amount of charging or running would turn it green
The battery appears to be the original and hence 7 years old so I priced a new one at a local motorist shop - £80 :(

Checked on E-bay and found the exact same one from Tayna Ltd for £43.50 :)
I must say the service was excellent. I ordered it at 3.30pm on Fri and it was delivered mid afternoon today.

One question I have:
The original battery had 1 vent port - the new one came with lots of warnings about removing all transit plugs ASAP
It has two.
Using some Silicone (fish tank) tubing a Tee piece and an elbow joint I've connected the two ports together and re-joined to the original vent
Have I done the right thing? - I didn't fancy leaving a vent open in the boot
I was also unsure if leaving one plug in would be detrimental in case the battery was actually sealed off inside in two halves
Clock and windows re-set

Did you get their recommended battery for the E85? It's a 70Ah stop/start battery - can't say I've seen these fitted to replace the original. Plus mine's an 80Ah, I didn't think you were supposed to go lower than what was OEM fitted?
Seems really cheap, I keep seeing prices quoted in the hundreds to replace the battery (mine's also the original from 2008 so I'm looking at some preventative maintenance, replace before things start getting flaky...)

Yeah, the guy checked the battery listing in the shop. The same one came up at the Tayna shop on E-bay (specifically for a E85 2000-2008 2.0 litre)
If I remember correctly this was the only model it would fit - is yours a bigger engine?
The BMW original was 70Ah - the new one is 72Ah
I think the 'capacity' figure was about 100 more as well

I checked on the forum- I believe Mr Wilks had recommended Tayna in the past, so I went for it
It's definitely better starting up now
I fitted a Gaptech module a couple of months ago and playing about without the engine running I flattened the battery a bit - Never really recovered from that so I guess it was on the way out
 
Ah is capacity (amp hours)

CCA is Cold Cranking Amps which is basically how well it performs starting the engine when the battery is cold (due to weather). Batteries face their sternest test under these conditions and all will lose power compared to when it's warmer so a higher CCA than OEM is always a good thing. Larger capacity will typically come from a larger battery/more weight so it's only worth it if you've rammed your car full of 6x9s or something.
 
CCA that was what I was trying to recall :oops:
Original battery was 560 or 570 amps
New battery is 670 amps

New battery was exactly same dimensions as the original

I see. My current battery is 80Ah, 640CCA
It's for a 2.5Si.

So the CCA for your battery is higher than my OEM.
