New battery question

So... Bought a new battery today for my daily honda accord, 10 years old and still on original so great vfm there :thumbsup: anyhow new battery was sold as ready to use, the little window showed a full green dot but i put it on trickle anyroad, 5 hours later its still not showing full charge, would you leave it overnight?
Old rule of thumb used to be fully charge it as the 1st charge was the most important, this is actually the 1st car battery ive bought as have always sold my cars before they needed changing :D
So has battery technology changed, can you just bang them straight on now and leave them, dont really want to be arseing about in the morning doing it but could commute in the zed and do it tomorrow evening or nip out now and put it in... Answers on a postcard :D :thumbsup:
 
Why would you want to charge it when the green light signifies "fully charged" doesn't it?

Well thats kind of what I was asking... The window on the battery indicates its fully charged.. Not convinced of the accuracy of those things tho... Put it on my multimeter and read 12.35v so slightly under the full 12.6, then i put it on the smart charger and, like i said 5 hours later its still not showing as fully charged.. Hence my question
 
Im well aware that its safe to put it on, I was more asking whether people would in their opinion for the sake of the longevity of the battery put it on a full overnight trickle charge, thanks for the input though, most enlightening

Hi, id fit the battery & go for a decent length drive-check the voltage in the morning to see its charge level.

You sound like a very over-cautious guy.

It will have warranty. It it drains, take it back and get a new one.

Can't see why you would charge a brand new battery or even worry about charging it.

Haha.. Cant say I've ever been described as over cautious, thanks although I'm not sure its compliment, :D
obviously I'm over thinking this one, every new battery ive ever bought for my motorbikes the advice given has always to give it a full charge, I justlike to do things right but it seems times have changed and im now officially a dinosaur :thumbsup:
 
Anything below 12.2v would indicate there's some internal breakdown is occurring so would be recommending you request a replacement battery. You don't show what voltage you have after charging but 12.4v to 12.6v is OK to fit.
