New Battery - Now no fans or rear window heater

Hi all,

After replacing a dead battery myself at the weekend I discovered to much annoyance last night in the cold that the fans and rear window heater no longer operate. For the fans, the dials light up but there is next to no power from them - just a very low heat which is not sufficient to clear a window in this weather. With the rear heater the button light doesn't even light up.

Do you think this could be some kind of fuse issue? Perhaps there may be a reset I could perform somewhere?

FYI, if I have to check fuses I would be very grateful for a guide on how to do this as it's alien to me.

Hello,

By the sounds of it, the car may have gone into transport mode. :headbang:

If the battery is low on charge or dead, the car will try and shed non-essential loads to help maintain power to essential systems.

From a bit of research, looks like its a dealer or specialist visit to reset it from this mode.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along shortly to help out!

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the responses. It certainly seems the most useful thing to try first then. I know the garage down the road so will give them a buzz.

This might sound like a silly question asking you and not them (the garage) but do you think they might know what to do? I mean, is this a very BMW specific kind of issue or does it happen on a lot of cars?

Thanks again :)

I think it requires a high level of suitable re-programming/diagnostic equipment :? not a simple scan & re-set you can do with a ebay tool

No dice with SSS/DIS? Google earlier suggested that it was possible in SSS. Even if it's a case of NCS that's not too much of a bother, finding the line is the hard part...
