Hi all,
I had a chat with my local friendly BMW salesman about swapping my M135i for another and was informed they are not taking any new orders now, after 29th April. There is going to be an imminent anouncement possibly next week for the M140i and when these can be ordered for Sept delivery. The idea was to get one of the last rear drive 6cyl 1ers and then keeping it indefinitely as it looks very much like the replacement 1 Series will be front wheel drive only based on the 2 Series/Mini platform and sporting 3 and 4 Cyl Turbo engines only. Unsure how a replacement for the 140i will pan out but guessing it will lose its 6cyl engine
but might possibly be an xDrive to keep the rear wheel brigade happy :? I therefore reckon in years to come the M135i and 140i will become quite sought after in say 10 or 15 years time as its a fairly niche car.
Looking at the swap over from the N55 engine currently in the M135i to the new B58 that will be slotted into the M140i it looks to be quite a different engine in its make up, found this article here,

The thing thats stuck out for me rather alarmingly so is the the Vanos and timing chain will be located at the rear of the engine against the bulkhead so any Vanos problems then the engine has to come out
So as a long term ownership proposition would this put you off? Vanos problems look to be a thing of the past now or are they? It would definitely mean always having a warranty of some sort as the car ages.
Tim.
