Can anyone who trading from an old 3.0 Z4 to the new 3.0 Zw give a list of positive and negative points

I'm considering changing mine after four years, or going to a 911.

test drove a 35i, but would go for a 30i.

The drive was less harsh, and quiter with the hood up. pulled very well. I like the new one now, but still have a couple of second thoughts. BMW offered me £12000 with everything fitted except 'Voice control' for my 3.0 Z4 with 43000 miles, I'll speck the new Z4 to arounf £41K

Completely diffferent cars I feel, I could never compare porsche with Z4. Z4 is all about styling, harsher to ride more common than porsche. Prosches are precise, U would have to be middle to drive it(no offence meant to all those middle aged men- :poke: ) Ididnt feel it as engaging as the M. The new Z4 is a bit different. Havent driven one yet-hence have to reserve my commnets.

I'm 47 and jut feel the old Z4 that I,ve owned since new for four years isn't a car for me in my fifties.

I'm trying very hard to like the new Z4 which is growing on me. I wanna hear from owners who previously had a 3.0 Z4 how they are getting on like their new purchase.

You might try ZPOST. I there's a number over there.

i have owned my 3.0 Z4 for over 5 years now and have always been pleased with it except for the things that all owners would "if they honestly critical" ie Steering feel, and very harsh ride (running on PS2's) etc. but a great car for touring europe wih such a big boot for a sports car.

I've been down the 997 route and hated it.... what's the bobbing front end all about *but always wanted this iconic vehicle on my drive" so really wanted it, but had to walk away.

last week end i was loaned a new 2.3 with 1200 miles on the clock. did 800 miles with 24 other Zed and BMW cars around the Lake District. all i can say is WHAT A CAR. the chassis is just beyond comparison with my old model. it beggared belief just how quick it could be peddled down a country road.

balance poise capability on the brakes in to corner and even panic braking just before a corner did'nt upset it!

i let 10 other Z3 and Z4 owners take it up the road and each and every one of them was astounded by just how god this car is compared to the old Z4.

only problem we had is the size of teh boot, but we will have to pack less cos its that good. position of the key..... stupid place and the front lowere heater outlet vent just under the key slot,,,,, stupid idea. but after 3 days with the car that;s all i could criticise.

the most surprising thing about this car was the tiny engine mated to the auto box and how FANTASTIC it was, ultimately i missed the torque a little, but by golly i could make this car hustle along English back roads!

fully thumbs up!

Hi,
I hav't had the old Z but I thought I'd put in my 2 pence worth.
I too am at the wrong end of fourty and although I loved my TVR's I just fancied something a bit more grown up if that makes sense.
I, to be honest, have never been a BMW fan and have never owned one but having seen the new Z4 at Goodwood I popped into the dealer and had a go.
I ended up going for the 35i with DCT and adjustable suspension and I have to say it is a great car. It is difficult to compare to the T350T which on paper is much faster. But on normal roads and a bit over normal speeds the Z feels quicker and the ride is comfortable and much more predictable. I havn't realy found any negatives, apart from no user added POI for the sat nav, yet but it has only been 3 weeks, I have been reading about the RFT's but I think it depends on what you are used too. All things being considered I miss the sound of my TIV and the attention it got but the Z is more grown up in every way.

I would agree with the age comments. The new Z4 feels too grown up for me. I was glad to get back in mine run flats and all after.

I only think the 911 is an older mans car because alot of younger men either cant afford them or or have there sites on them in a few years.

All 3 cars Old and New Z4 and 911 are how great cars should be....

Cheers

Nice looking M in that picture Dario.

Oh wait ... that is mine :D

... especially not worrying about grounding the car in a couple of places  (must check my underneath).

I've not gone from a 3 to a 3 but here goes anyway.

I've just swapped my 2.0i sport (08) for a new 23i. Options are similar, i had gray leather sports seats, sports wheel on my old one, and have the white pack on the new one.

The cars are surprisingly different. The new one is much more refined inside, lots more room (especially for the passenger). One of the most noticeable things is the ride hight. In my old Z4 you more often than not could not see past just about any car on your outside at roundabouts etc. In the new Z4 despite not appearing to be that much higher, it clearly is, because your ride position is not really much lower than most cars out there.

Speed wise the 23i blows my old 2.0i out the water. It's much faster 0-60, but also top end pull is phenomenal.

I had 19inch runflats on the 2.0i, but have only 18" on the 23i. The ride is much more comfortable in the 23i, but without losing much response. On the motorway normal mode is fine, on windy roads the sport mode comes into it's own. I've not bothered with Sport+ at all yet.

As a general rule it feels a bit less of a rough and ready roadster than the old z4, but doesn't lose any of the fun, speed, response. Oh and the scuttle shake is no where to be seen this time.

The only thing i don't understand is.. why did they call it the 23i when it's a 2.5l engine.. just seems daft to me

One thing i miss? The view of the buldging wheel arch in the wing mirror.. the new one just isn't as big a bulge, but hey you can't have everything :)

Do you really think the ride height is not much lower than most cars? I gave my neighbour a lift to work the other week and watching her getting in and out was hilarious! When she got in I think she thought the seat had collapsed to the ground. :D

I think its called a 23i because its a de-tuned 2.5i. I noticed you have removed the badges for a nice clean look.

Mmm I agree, I never noticed that it was much higher than the E85 Z4 when I saw in it, still pretty low.

Maybe it's just the immediate reaction from going from one to the other, but i think at least for me the difference in ride height is noticeable. It just didn't seem nearly as low as the old one.

One other difference is the steering ratio. The E85 has a higher ratio.
With the E85 I could take small roundabouts with a fixed arm at 3 and 9 o’clock position.

Actually, I've been thinking about this. I haven't driven the new Z4 that much (yet) but I really don't think you can compare the two. Engine performance aside, they look and drive like different models, almost to the point of maybe it shouldn't have carried the Z4 moniker!

The way I feel about my old Z4 to the new one I am getting this week is that I am upgrading to a more comfortable, higher spec'd and more upmarket car than my old Z4. This isn't a slant on my old one as that was a great sports car. This new one is more of a GT car in comparison. If I could have afforded it, I would have kept both!!
The new one, in a straight line, does feel quicker than my old one, especially when planting the foot to the floor (they are both manuals). It also feels a bit better on steering feel than my old one. Less twitchy at speed.

At speed, I actually prefer the sound of my old 3.0si than the new one, at tick over the new 35i sounds better, more like a V8 sound!
The interior is definitely more upmarket as the one I am getting has the leather clad dash and it just makes it feel less "plastic". I was well pleased with the interior on my old one until I saw this one!
Exterior looks wise, side by side the new one from the front looks way more aggressive than my old one! I still prefer the rear of my old Coupe though, but I do like the new one in black.

I think the "old" Z4 will more likely have it's predecessor in the new Z2 when it comes out, as in the direction that the car is intended for.
