New 2.5 - couple of issues from first month

I have bought a new 2006 Z4 and am loving it but have the following issues:

1) The car is bluetooth enabled and i have tried to pair my phone but it does not seem to recognise it. I hit the R/T button the steering wheel and even with Bluetooth on my phone activated it comes up with 'no phone'. I understand this may be as the phone is not supported but am i going about it the right way? I have yet to cycle through all my old phones so hopefully one works...

2) My car still has run flats on it and over lumpy tarmac the wheel is wrenched side to side to an extent (almost like bad torque steer)- i have ehcekd the tyre temps (put them back to 34 psi all round) but it still does it meaning over broken roads i really need to hold the wheel tight.

3) The soft top is working fine up and down and stowes correctly (which i understand can be an issue) but sometimes when putting the roof down, the latch seems to stick on the left hand side. If this happens i usually press the close button again until the red light goes off, then try again and this seems to fix it. I am concerned this may be an issue needing fixing althgouh luckily the motor seems to working perfectly - concerned the motor may be taxed when the roof is stuck which may lead to motor issues down the track.

Would greatly appreciate your feedback on these as otherwise i am loving my time with the car so far.

Cheers

Hi and welcome to the Forum. I think all of the issues you mention have been covered somewhere on the Forum. As a newbie (and before others tell you...!) try the search function.

Thanks - i have searched on the roof issue and bluetooth and founds lots of useful info but nothing specific to my issues - lots of issues around roof motors but couldn't see anything around sticking latches? Also couldn't see anything as to which buttons to press to get bluetooth going.

Cheers

Here's a link which will take you to a list of compatible phones;

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18275&p=263756&hilit=bluetooth+phone#p263756 - I know the list you find will be for Canada but there will not be that much difference internationally. I'm sure someone will enlighten you on the difficulties of 'pairing'.

As for the RFTs - no doubt your search showed how many of us have ditched these and changed for non RFTs. Numerous other makes to choose from and at different prices. I run PS2s and the difference in handling and ride is certainly worth the cost and effort.

There are several threads on the central roof latch not connecting and subsequent repairs by BMW have just removed the latch. I'm not sure about your model as you mention a latch either side.

Great thanks for the reply - I thought the RFT may have been to blame - will have to wear the current ones out a bit quicker!!

I have a MY06 2.5si - has a latch on the left and right (Australian model). Seems to only be sticking on the left side though....

All Z4's have catches both sides, I can only guess that some lubrication maybe requierd on the latch.

Do you have any warranty, if so take it back to the dealer if you can replicate easily.

Hi, good purchase, sorry to hear you've had some issues.

Bluetooth, not a clue... I'm old skool. Tyres, that's how RFTs roll, the difference between the OEM RFTs and standard tyres or decent RFTS (I hear) is night and day. Finances allowing I would consider swapping the RFTs out early (before they wear) - proper tyres are cheaper, for me almost 2 for 1. Also, you may need the RTFs if you ever want to sell the car back to BMW so store them if you can.

The roof. If it is not a sticking latch, do you know if it's had any work done on it? Is it an alignment issue? I know the cause won't apply to a facelift car, but when I had my roof motor replaced the dealer overtightened the canvas when refitting. It was too tight down the left side and stopped the left latch from fully engaging. When closing the roof you may want to try stopping before it meets the top of the window and gently pushing each side forward to see if you notice a difference. Or, as the roof is engaging with the top of the window give the affected side a push into place while pressing the button, if you're taking the strain from the roof, so the latch can work freely, and it works fine that may be the culprit.

Good luck.

To get my IPhone to work, i had to delete all old pairings before i paired it. I think you hold the button 'till you hear a beeping noise but best check your manual :)

Worth a try!

Does sounds like you have been through the pairing procedure for the phone?

There is a button in the storage compartment door (between the seats), hold that down for about 5 seconds, then turn on the ignition (not the engine though) while holding the same button for a further 3 seconds. Car should beep and go into BT Pairing mode.... Then search in your phone for bluetooth devices but be sure to have your pin handy...

What phone do you have?

oh and welcome to the forum :D

I had to start my engine to get this to work.
