Nespresso KRUPS pods jargon Help required

Have a nespresso citiz without the milk thingy.
For: good espresso, rich foam on top. Also does a cup size (or 3/4 of a mug if you're common like us)
Against. Have to warm the cups up (do you have an aga you can leave them on?)Sort your own milk out. And if you uit a normal amount of milk in a mug, it's not too hot, drinkable straight away. All the bits go in the dishwasher so an easy clean up.
Finally if you use their instructions to clean/descale it, it will die 3/4 of the way through the process. Shits you up but it's just the thermal protection kicking in. Turn it off, and disconnect for 20 mins and carry on!
If you must have a good espresso then this does it, if you want a coffee 'cocktail machine' that does it all automatically look elsewhere.
Ps if you're flagging a bit, make yourself a vodka and coke and stick an espresso in it.

Must be the only one left who does it the old way? Tried nespresso, tassimo etc, always found them missing something. Still do the warm up, grind fresh beans, etc - yes it takes time, but must admit that I like the sense of occasion of making proper coffee.

+1. I don't grind my coffee, but I have a little coffee pot on the stove and I quite like the routine.

My current flavour of choice is a house blend from Monmouth coffee shop, near London bridge. Use a manual grinder with ceramic burr, grind fresh, then make an espresso with water forcing through the beans at around 15 seconds..... Lovely.

Aeropress?

Not aeropress, although I do like the look of them. No, it's a proper espresso machine, although not my "dream machine" yet - need a few thousand for that, but there is no way I'd be able to justify it ... :D

Keeping to the coffee theme, has anyone tried a Handpresso?

I keep coming back to them when I get asked what I want for Christmas/birthday, but then I go off them as I think it's expensive for something I might only use for track days/ring trips (assuming I remember to take the thing/coffee/water with me).

Can u buy any alternative pods from Supermarkets? Or do they ONLY take the specific Nespresso Pods??

There are alternative 'Nespresso-style' pods out there, but they're not common (although I think this may change as Nespresso lost a court case regarding the pods, and now Waitrose and Dualit are making compatible ones).

There's even empty ones you can buy which you can fill with your own blend.

We are planning on getting one for work for visitors and meetings, however can't decide which system to get. I like Nespresso because of George, sad I know, I have a Tassimo at the other home but not to keen on that as it only makes very strong coffee even with strength 3 and the Nescafé well it's Nescafé so not sure on that either.

Off topic sorry, but sars I'm obsessed with my Tassimo. Being able to stick Costa pods in there keeps brand whores happy and looks cool, but more to the point I've had and have so many different coffee types and they aren't all strong to taste. Even the teas are nice if you haven't tried them? Create a really thick crème with them too. Sorry, you can see my addition clearly here

How do you find the Costa pods in comparison to the real thing? I tried one at a trade show, and whilst the coffee part might have been ok, the milk part was gross. Ended up tasting the same as the Nestle Dulco (spelling?) machine we used to have at work....just don't seem to get the milk right.

Hmm with cappuccinos etc you need to make sure you give it a good stir, otherwise it does seem to separate. I like the costa Americano pods, they seem stronger tasting than the actual Costa drinks from the coffee shops, but I suppose that's all taste. There's certainly a lot of choice at least.

The machines themselves seem pretty good, I really abuse mine and have had it over a year, make 5+ coffees in a row when people are round. It hasn't over heated once and the Brita filter keeps the scale away. It doesn't look quite as slick as the gusto machines but still looks smart with its screen.

Arpeggio gets my vote: http://www.nespresso.com/uk/en/product/arpeggio

We probably order about five boxes of these (at work) for every one box of something else.

+1 to the mighty purple capsule.

Rosabaya is another close favourite, for something smoother.

I do have a stove top 'moka' for the weekend when I want a couple of cups of coffee. But the Nesprrsso always nails it for the crema. I can't get the same finish from my Bialetti moka.
