Need a new Xenon bulb

As per title, drivers side failed today at 119,000 miles. From what I have found I need a D2S bulb but what colour/temperature?

Cheers Neil, was coming to the replace in pairs conclusion with what I have read. Just confused by the price difference, halfords is £90 for one or I can get a pair on ebay for £20!

Halfords are ridiculously expensive to buy from. I changed mine a few months back (got 6000k instead of standard) paid around £20 for the pair and they are brilliant!

8K - isn't that ultra-violet

Autobulbs do Philips ones for about £30 each, as it's what I have in my spare bulb kit I have in my 'European Trip' kit.

You probably wouldn't notice any difference between between a 4100k and 5000k, but if you were suddenly go from a 'normal' 4100k to 'bright/blue/ice white' 6000k bulb then you will see what looks like a very bright white, which is actually just the same visual trick used in washing powders to make whites look whiter.

Don't forget that the further you go either side from standard (4100k-4300k) bulbs, the more light is outside the visible wavelengths, so you'll get less light output (e.g the loss between a 4300k and an 8000k bulb is about 1000 lumens/30%). Anything between 4000k & 5000k will look 'normal'. Below this will look yellow, above will start to look blue. 12000k+ if you want purple

Also remember that new bulbs require about 50 hours use before the colour/light level settles down.

Couple of years back the stealers quoted me £250 to replace one!

(Then one of you lot pointed out that the warranty excluded xenons from the bulb exemption! )
