Need a new windscreen :-(

I managed to hit my head on the rear view mirror as I attempted to reach into the passenger footwell to pick up my phone; hit the mirror and that was the end of the windscreen, and it didn't even hurt my head :?

Anything I need to be aware of guys, anyone had any issues having anew windscreen fitted? Would prefer a BMW one but presume the insurance won't give me one :thumbsdown:

Make sure they use a genuine BMW rubber strip as a minimum. The pattern ones are shite apparently.
 
I had mine replaced at dealer, I got a "best price" from the dealer and presented that to the insurance company (More than). They agreed providing I paid the bill to dealer and then submitted to them the receipt. I was paid back with 2 weeks, and all was quite refreshing.
 
Feckin hell your napper must be harder than the hobs of hell!

+1 on the trim others have had problems with badly fitting aftermarket versions. Insist on OEM.

spareone3, any ballpark on what that cost? I'll call Stephen James tomorrow and get a price anyway. Admiral/Autoglass want £75 excess which I know will be much cheaper than BMW...
 
Aftermarket is fine. Make sure it's Pilkington though.

Auto windscreens brought another brand first time and it was completrly the wrong shape at the bottom.

Also, it's a must that they fit a genuine bmw seal around the outside. The aftermarket ones are shockingly bad and ripple and break.

Admiral used auto windscreens when I last used them a year ago.
 
Thanks Tonybz and ben g! 4.5 months wait :o :o

I will insist on an OE seal even if they come back and say I can't have the OE screen that I've requested... I'm awaiting their call tomorrow for more info.
 
Be aware there are clear, blue or green tints available... and with or without a sun band

Also make sure u state whether u have rain sensors and if you tell them yours has a tint & sun band when u phone up, was told was one of the ways to deffo ensure a genuine screen

Mine had tint and sun and, but was still a Pilkington one.

Although you've got to remember that BMW don't actually make their own screens anyway :poke:
