Need a 4 seater

So it turns out baby number two is inbound, and apparently you can't get two child seats and a driver in my Z4, so I need a bigger car for the odd occasion when I need to transport them both. Luckily this will be in addition to my zed. I want both cars to be as much fun as each other, so I can drive them 50/50.

What I really want is a fast 4 seat convertible for when its just me (i.e. as much fun as my zed), but big and safe enough etc to get baby and child seat in the back, and the 5ft7 inch wife in the front. I love my zed and the way it drives, so a 35is with another row of seats would be ideal!

I guess I should look at M4 and M6, and the inbound M2. Anyone got one of these with baby seats? Any other suggestions? Budget maybe £50-£70k ish.

Go for the new M3 it will be easier to get kids in and out... And they look better than the M4... Bigger arches on the rear

I'd be with you, or a M6GC - but this car will be 50% for me and I love the convertible. Maybe you are right though.

Go take an M3 out for a test drive you will love it.... I got rid of an M5 to get one, but then I did not need 4 seats any more so that's why I opted for the Z4 and I love it..... Get the DCT they are just like an animal waiting to pounce

With that budget, assuming you're buying new, I'd look at an RS4 convertible. Unless the wife is comfortable with RWD (especially in poor weather) then it may be a better choice.

M6 new is stupid money for what it will be worth 2 years later IMO. I'd suggest a M235i convertible, but you'll struggle with all the gubbins that goes with two kids, as you'll know from just having one...

Not sure how much a Merc E55 (or whatever engine designation it is) convertible is ? I keep seeing a saloon on my way to work, and the noise is awesome.

Totally left-field - imported mustang convertible. Something with some Shelby in it rather than the boggo standard one.

Just my tuppenceworth

How about an Alpina B4 or D4 convertible - all the performance and a bit more exclusivity for the discerning buyer

Steve Sutcliffe rather likes the saloon version

Happy to look at used - year or so old. The wife has her own car, I suspect she'll never drive this one. RS4 does look good though. I guess I'd be looking a 2 year old M6.

The M235i looks fantastic - hence interest in M2. Not sure if I'd get two seats in the back.

I know nothing about Mercs. I'll have a look - thanks.

One of the reasons my z4 went at the start of the year was due to expecting our first child in september...

The TT meets those requirements or so i thought... Really need 4 doors with a baby seat in the back.

So If you can afford it go M3.

Personally we've just changed the wifes SLK for a qashqui :(

M3 would be a good all rounder. Perfectly child friendly or go M6 Gran Coupe if you want something bigger. Some serious savings for a year old or 18 month old one.

Not sure what all the RS4 chat is about, the new RS4 only comes as an avant at the moment, not a convertible.
So you'd be looking at an S5 (specced up is circa £50k) or an RS5 which will be mega money.

Keep us posted.
