N52 2.5: guru advice please

Evening all

Just picked up **another** Z4…

It’s a donor car with some lovely sports seats, but a great price and with a years MOT, good spec and history and an 07 plate I want to do the usual sprucing

However, comfortable as I am with the M54 engine the N52 is a new era for me!

Water pump was done a few k ago, but I’m assuming the following need checking

Oil and filter
Air filter
Sparks?
Belts x2?
Antifreeze

I’m going to change the gearbox and diff oil anyway but any other recommendations?

Surprised at 177bhp it seems as poky as my m54 2.5… picked up well and the drive back from Eastbourne (200 miles) was really smooth!

You've got a serious addiction Stuart! :lol:

The electric water pump is probably the biggest difference between the M54 and the N52 so it's great if it has just had one. Otherwise I think you've covered everything, but it's worth checking for oil leaks from the cam-cover and oil filter housing gaskets. And a couple of people have suffered oil leaks from corroded sumps, but that should be pretty obvious!

If you do brake fluid you might as well whip the CDV out while you're at it. :thumbsup:

The N52 should run smoothly, but that was quite a trip!

Good shout on the cam cover gasket- it’s a high miler so hopefully hasn’t done short runs

Deffo getting the CDV off! That was night and day on the 2.5 M54!

I tried to look at it a few weeks ago before he got it mot’d. He pissed me about, went to see it at a garage and he never turned up.

What’s the bodywork like, the advert was dire and showed it very dirty.

He was a decent chap but wasn’t well- had just had hefty surgery. They got the car a year or so back from a friend who was in trouble so just didn’t drive it

It’s in fair nick- bodywork is good: front end was all resprayed a year ago. Wheels are fair and the mv2s are growing on me. It’s got full service history and as the horrible stuff like water pump and brake lines are done I’ll get the other niggles sorted.

There is a clunk underneath which I presume is guibo or driveshaft based and a whine from the rear I am betting is a bearing. At 141k miles it’s to be expected.

I’ll keep you posted on progress.
