N51/N52 supercharger - it's real!

Sounds like ESS is testing an N51/N52 supercharger. Previous to this, no one knew how much pressure the engine could withstand, since it has a cast crank and uncommon block construction.

Here are the RUMORS: The kit is being tested to 10 psi, but the production kit will run 7 psi. The kit is non-intercooled. ESS is testing their kit to 30k miles prior to release. The variable stage intake makes minimal difference in final power numbers.
 
Will be interested to see what the reliability is like as well as the cost/real world additional hp

But the m54 would be able to take larger amounts of boost with stock internals. Just because it's older doesn't mean it's worse.

Just look at all the issues Arma had with their sc kit for the n52. :lol

Given the age and popularity of these engines it kind of speaks for itself that there aren't any reliable fi solutions for the n52.
 
Heard that yeah, also they should be releasing a m54 centrifugal kit. Waiting for that one, it should be cheaper then the twinscrew series as ESS responded on fb.

I'm with you, would rather have a SC M54 than a SC N52 with its magnesium and aluminum crankcase.

The M54 also sounds better as standard than the N52 as well.
 
The issue with the arma kit was poor construction. The SC blew apart.
Not peoples engines

From what i've read anyway.

I guess based on the link below, there would need to be some work done to the block to run decent boost levels for it to be financially viable. Otherwise it's a case of put both the car and driver on a diet! :rofl:

Heres proof right here. BMW's own I6 production manager, the head guy in BMW's I6 powerplants saying exactly what I said about the weaker Mg/Al N52 block. And I quote Mr. Welter,"

In the case of the magnesium-aluminum block, Welter says, “Right now, the crankcase-stress of the turbocharged engine is above the limit of the aluminum/magnesium crankcase.”

Im happy i can keep up with Stock M3 E46.

There's genuinely nothing in it.

Any other news on the ESS centrifugal supercharger for the M54? How will this compare in performance to the twin screw?

@pharmed no idea, nothing heard on that, only that they were doin it. this is that message:

and it's fitted to a E85 so it deff wil work on our cars. but seen nothing on there website nor facebook, so stil waiting for more info on that one.
