So since ownership I have had some issues to say the least! Now my latest one which I thought was sticky steering maybe not! Its only happened when on a very long drive and with the heater on and it seems to be a temperamental issue. The steering wheel goes extremely heavy and almost pulls back to centre.

Today after just a very short drive (3 miles) with no heater on the steering wheel became heavy and when I say heavy, I mean it took booth hands to turn the wheel  Then up on the dash pops the steering wheel light and exclamation sign. Looks like its the EPS system.

So after i managed to park the car at my destination, I switched off and on and steering is back. Any help or advice?

Just for devilment have a look in your fusebox and check fuse no 22, that's the one for the EPS. It may be making a poor contact. If it's ok it sounds like you need to be checking all the connection points back to the EPS unit. It doesn't sound like the usual sticky steering problem to me if it's happening when it's still cold. although if as you say it's previously happened only when hot - that is the sticky steering problem.

You're beset by bad luck aren't you REAPER?! I am not here to ridicule and do sympathise. I'm not the world's best mechanic either, sadly, but have come across what you're describing. I took my car to be fiddled with by the garage in York, owner lent me his personal car for the day so I could come and collect at home time. As I drove his car back to Leeds, the steering got extremely heavy 10 yards away from where I was parking up, a bit of grinding noise, so I phoned him and told him there was a problem. He immediately asked what I'd done as you might expect... Anyway, when I cam e to start the car up again to get back there, the problem had disappeared and did not reappear on the journey (thankfully for me). When I saw this chap about 3-6 months later I casually asked and he said that a few weeks after I'd had it, the power steering packed up and - I think - he said a new pump was the answer. To me, it almost felt like the steering rack and the base of the steering column were having a massive, noisy argument so I wouldn't have immediately guessed it was the pump. Either way, if you're now saying it could be power steering-related I'd support your suspicions. Doesn't sound like you've had nasty noises but the other symptoms are not unfamiliar to me.

I was, shall we say, concerned when his car had a problem. A measure of the man, however, that he confirmed his EPS pump was on the way out and it was nothing to do with me...phew, bullet dodged!

Hope you get this sorted mate.

Rubbish news buddy!! Sticky steering i have had that and like you after long drives with the heater on. I have oiled the UJs and replaced bushes and had the alignment set up. I think but not 100% sure its fixed next step for me would to drill the column and add a grease nipple.

I would check the fuse before doing anything else. I have driven my car with no power steering like you describe. So hopefully a fuse or simple power issue.
