hi,

i buy in february a used z4 2,2 from 4/2004 with 28000Km and have a lot a problems from the begining.
Now i have a problem that the dealear can't solve, they flash the DME with the last version, but i have the same:

i release the throttle in 1º our 2º and the rpm go down smooth and fast ( :D ), until 2000rpm.
Then from 2000rpm to 700rpm:
- go down from 2000 - 1700, then stop 0,5 seconds;
- go down from 1700 - 1400, then stop 0,5 seconds;
- go down from 1400 - 1100, then stop 0,5 seconds;
- go down from 1100 - 700

When i press the throttle slowly i have the same problem, but in reverse.

Someone now what is wrong ... help me guys
thanks in advance :thumbsup:

Hi Badz4, I'm trying to understand your post - you have an auto tranny then?, that keeps kicking down into too low a gear while you're driving or only when releasing the throttle?

Hey Badz4, Nice to see you on the forum.

What part of Portugal are you from?

In March, I was in Lisbon for 10 days. Had to fly over to fix a broken submarine.

What a GREAT city........... :thumbsup:

hi Shipkiller,
I'm from Leiria a little town 132 Km north from Lisbon (1 hour driving).
Lisbon is very nice and very different from you town's. :)
Everything is old (buildings, streets) :wink:

fire-n-ice,
i have manual 5 gears, and the problem is only on releasing the throttle.

I'm sorry Badz4, I just don't understand, bit of a language barrier I suppose :lol: .
Perhaps someone here can help you out better but, I would keep taking it back to the dealership until they fix the problem. You do have to be persistent sometimes to get the results you desire. I had an issue with my steering a couple months ago and had to do some research before hand and make two different appointments before I got it resolved. Don't give up easily.
I told them do not call me until the problem was remedied, sorry I couldn't be of much help. But let us know when you fix the problem and what was done to rectify the situation.

I think maybe what BadZ4 is trying to say is that when he releases the throttle the rpm decrease in a normal fasion to 2000, but instead of continuing to decrease in a normal fashion below 2000, the rpm hesitates for 0,5 second at three specific rpm numbers (1700,1400,1100).
When increasing the throttle the rpm experiences the same hesitations at the same numbers, after reaching 2000 the rpm behaves normal.

Is that correct, BadZ4?

Could it be that he needs to recalibrate his throttle?

To reset the throttle:

1. Ignition off
2. Turn Key to 'on'
3. Wait 15 sec.
4. Turn Ignition off
5. Wait 15 sec.
6. Start Car.

100% correct ... :cry:

Hi BadZ4,
do you also have engine stalls, as approaching to stop e.g. at the trafic lights?
If they reprogrammed the DME and the problem is still there, then you should check the MAF and/or the Intake/Exhaust/Crank Sensors.
These are very common problems of your engine
