Earlier today when Mrs R came back in the Discovery I noticed that a brake light had failed. I chivalrously volunteered to do the 15 mile round trip to Halfords - in the Zed of course! :)

Discovery was parked with the rear to the lounge window, so asked Mrs R to tell me whether the brake light was the top or bottom bulb in the cluster. I put my foot on brake and was told it was the bottom.

Remembering that the failed bulb was on the right I removed the cluster and changed the bottom bulb.

I then asked Mrs R to tell me if it now worked. she said "no" pointing at the left. :(

Thinking that my memory was playing tricks I the replace the bulb I had put in the bottom right and go through the repeat performance on left.

Once again I ask Mrs R to check that all,is now fixed. She tells me that the one on the left still doesn't work. :x

I get Mrs R to,come outside and put her foot,on the brake pedal. The TOP left comes on, but not on the right. :o

I ask Mrs R what she was looking at. she said that she couldn't see the right cluster at all, but the bottom light on the left didn't come on when I put my foot on the brake pedal!!!

So all that remained was to remove the right cluster, replace the TOP bulb on the right.

How bloody difficult was that?? :headbang:

Wish I'd asked the other occupant of the lounge to help, but the dog seemed a second-best choice at the time. I even wished that I'd gone to Halfords in the Discovery and got them to fit the bulb!

Good story - hope you and Mrs R are still on speaking terms :)

Yes of course. A bottle of Old Speckled Hen, a lovely dinner (tuna steak with cous cous - thanks for asking) - courtesy of Mrs R's fine cooking skills - and a glass of Rioja and all is well in the world!

I thought it was all forgotten, but I do find myself wondering how long it would take to train the dog to put his foot on the middle pedal.

You had better hope your Mrs doesn't read this thread, or you'll be swapping bedrooms with the other occupant of the lounge.
