Maybe a bit long winded .......
As a youth in the 70's, being unemployed basically meant you starved - unemployment payments didn't even cover the electricity bill.
Then North sea oil came on line and suddenly the government had access to loads of loot and used it well - successive governments have bought
votes to stay in power by increasing benefits etc etc etc ....... no news there.
Now the cash has run out and we will be unable to stop a return to the more Normal level of benefits ...... blah blah blah ....
I was talking to our 20 year old about it all some time ago, I was making noises along the lines of ...... your generation may not see the need to get educated
and get off your arse and make things happen etc ...... but it wont be long before you will be competing with the next generation for jobs ...... got the usual ...... yeah yeah yeah now feck off kind of reply .....
Just listening to BBC News this morning, talking to some 15 year olds ....... they were referring to 20 year olds as the "Previous Generation" .....
