My old Seat - what to do with it? Alternative uses? SORN?

So I bought a z4 a few weeks back and this is going to be my main source of transport now.

I haven't not sold my 2006 Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI FR (~74k miles).

I want to keep it for sentimental reasons (put it as SORN in my garage) and bring it back in action after a few years in case I need the space for kids etc. However I'm not sure how wise that is, as I could get hefty bills after that period to get it back up and running.

So the question is, do I sell it to some garage/ big car giant etc for £1k or should I keep it in storage for potential later use.

I'm not sure if I can handle the ordeal of selling private. Or perhaps I'm being too lazy/ sensitive about selling it to 'someone'. I think I could get min £2k for it privately. Perhaps I'm being optimistic, but either way its only £1k difference.

The other idea, which is a little nuts, is what else could I do with it. I mean its got a powerful diesel engine. Can this be used for anything around the house/ garden? Any crazy ideas out there? Or perhaps strip it and convert into track car or something else?

Any ideas welcome, as bit stumped as to what to do with it. Tax runs out in July, so need to make decision by then really.

Sell it, get it gone and focus on your Z4. You can always come back to a four door car if the needs arise in the future.

If you aren't fussed about 'only 1k' then for less hassle and getting it gone - sell it to WBAC or whoever and then it's done.

If you think you can get some more for it then sell it privately. If it's tidy and up together it shouldn't take long to go if the price is right...
An ad on ebay or gumtree etc should get some local interest..

This approach sounds like the way to go.

I tend to agree with Wyldie, you'll soon forget it, concentrate on the zed. However if you can't bring yourself to sell it cos you lost your cherry in it etc... if your garage is dry then it should'nt need too much doing to it in few years if you store it correctly, and then you'll have a car you know paid for that you can use for practical things and keep the zed for fun.

I can understand your dilemma though as I can't bear to part with my MR2, but I've got a clear plan for that, bare metal re-spray and concours it over a couple of years for shows etc, the heart often rules the head does'nt it.

They're great cars - I used to own one (and in a way I regret selling it).

Whack it up on SeatCupra.net and if it's any good they'll snap your hand off. 74k is barely run in, but the big garages will only give you peanuts.

With a remap and some subtle suspension mods they really are a wolf in sheep's clothing - and if yours isn't played with scene boys love a blank canvas.

Dammit, I'm talking myself into buying one here

Thanks everyone. It kinda feels like I'm selling an old friend :(

I had the guy around a mo ago and indeed they are only offering £1k for it.

As mentioned by xp_mckenna they really are a wolf in sheep's clothing. Such a lot of car for only £1k it's incredible.

I have 5 days till their offer ends, so I think I might just sleep on it and then take it from there... hmm such a hard choice.

don't parts start to seize if not being used? i'm not talking 2 weeks here but rather many months.

he has to sell it IMO, pointless having £2K sitting there turning into £0 the longer it stays in there. Sell it now. People suggesting he should keep it IMO he would better to take the £2K and stick it on black at his local casino than keep it in his garage. Personally I would sell and buy a small tablet of solid gold. When the next recession hits gold is going to sky rocket.

hahha probably a good idea actually!

Currently thinking just sell to the company for ~£1k. I might try and get a little more out of it. I just don't want the hassle of selling it privately.

It's going to be so sad to see it go, but I think I just need to let go and then start afresh when I start a family. The thing is, the insurance is quite high on the car, so if I get a new car I will make sure all yearly costs are really low. That will make me feel less guilty about having the Z4 as well as some piece of **** family car haha.
