My new Imola Roadster

I’m back into e85 ownership after a few years away with 911’s. It’s my first time running an M though.

34k miles, good history and condition. As it happens it spent a good chunk of its life pre-Covid just down the road from me before moving to Ware with the previous owner.

Love the colour Imola/Champagne seats. Got some Aero skirts landing next week and looking for some CSLs too.

I’ll be shelling out for an Insp 1 next, Vanos inspection and considering rod bearing shells.

Wish me luck with this one!!

With the mileage the price is not that bad though. As you know I bought one, but that has 58k. I would have paid more for lower miles.

What a stunner.

My ideal M would have been Imola with Champagne or Light Sepang leather, but with less than 600 MCs registered in the UK I might have had to wait a long time, or still been waiting!

Price doesn't seem excessive to me for an MR with such low mileage.

Maybe it's just me but people seem to get hung up on Vanos. AFAIK my MC has never had any Vanos work done but still performs fine on 93K miles.

Rod bearing shells seem to be a lottery if you don't know the history of the car. Just make your mind up before you get the Inspection 1 done or it will cost you more oil and another oil filter!

My car had 7 previous keepers when I bought it on 76K miles and for peace of mind I got the shells replaced at 78K. The 6 uppers were all showing some copper, but I was more concerned at the state of the old engine mounts. :o

It makes sense to have mounts and shells done at the same time while the engine is supported from above.

Maybe your decisions will be influenced by whether you are thinking of it as a keeper, although buying Aeros ( ) and looking for CSLs suggests it may be!

Good luck.

Spent the morning cleaning and tinkering. I’ve become a bmw loyalist now. Rapid EV and raw M to keep me satisfied (I hope). 💪🏼

Congratulations, looks fantastic. Here’s mine, black leather though.

Looks great. What finish are those wheels? They look shiny.

Thank you. Unfortunately I can’t give you an exact answer as they were like that when I bought the car nearly 7 years ago. I really like them as it’s something a little different without straying too far from original. I bought the car from a forum member, so hopefully someone might know the technical name for the finish. Here’s a close up pic.

I would say that finish is standard - they've always had a slight shadow chrome effect - did on mine anyway. Not everyone replicates this, so perhaps if some aren't like this, they have been refurbed to a standard flat finish at some stage?

I’ve got an Imola cousin to your Imola roadie.

I also sourced a set of Aero’s although I did like the clean look of the factory sills, win, win I guess

Yes they are genuine CSL’s that I fitted about 18 months ago. At the same time I refreshed the suspension with new OEM set up which gives a reasonable level of comfort and certainly more than the original factory set up that was 18 years old.
That said it would certainly never win awards for the plushest of rides and I’m always looking out to steer clear of dreaded pot holes…
One day I may return it back to the factory 18’s but for now, yes it works for me.
