How much of a bargin was it?

Bought it from a specialist dealer but not BMW. and it's first registered January 2010 (only 28K miles though) so I'm assuming it's well out of warranty. (Z4's came with a 3 year warranty I believe?)

Yes but if it had been bought from BMW it would come with a 1 year unlimited warranty. It wouldn't be the first time someone has purchased a car from BMW and found that it's not quite as it seems and invalidating the warranty hence the question.
Cars come with 3 years warranty but can be extended, even now but like I said it wouldn't cover the above due to the mods but would still cover the roof for example. unfortunately lower mileage is no guarantee that something might go wrong but I'm sure it'll be fine
