My New Car

This is my new car, I bought it primarily for its looks. When I got it home I wanted to check the oil and tyre pressures as a priority. I opened the bonnet and thought, idiot the engine is in the boot like a 911. Looked in the boot, no engine, thought, mid-engined, like a Cayman. I looked under the rear seats and still could not find the dipstick. It drives well though, so that is all that matters.

I do hope you did your research before buying a Taycan, John.
Yes Andrew, all recalls done, full Porsche service history, nearly 4 years old, under 7000 miles and got it for a song. I have extended the warranty for a year after Porsche did their 111 point check. Very happy with it.

It was the depreciation I was eluding to. Sounds like someone else has taken the hit on that.
Yes Andrew, it was a euro millions winner that bought it along with a Cayman and god knows what else. As I said less than 7000 miles and 60% less than he paid for it.

That looks very smart indeed. Love the colour. My neighbour has one which sadly he bought new. He loves the car but not the depreciation. Mind you he has 2 other Porsches, 2 Bentleys,2 LandRovers and various motorcycles. So money doesn’t appear to be a problem. :D

Congratulations, I do love the look of these and the performance. Do you get a report on how much percentage capacity remains within the battery?

I intend to keep this for a very long time and I would expect the talk of rapid depreciation will have long passed. :)

sars, I did get quite a few reports, but cannot remember seeing one on remaining battery capacity. I will now have a look.

Nice one. I had one as a loaner whilst my Cayman was in for a service. I really enjoyed the drive and was staggered at how quick they are.

Nice looking and no doubt great performance wise but at some point the battery will need changing. Suspect that will be very expensive. At what point is the cost of changing the battery become more expensive than the car is worth?

Now you are back in warranty, you don’t pay for the 111 checks anymore in the future. I buy the 3 year warranty packs every time so that works out at £900 per year.

Never seen one in red, enjoy the car

(Never read about any battery replacement on a Taycan either so you should be fine)

Of course this is something I considered before buying. The car will be garaged in a warm, not hot, garage heated to about 14 degrees in the winter. Porsche advice is to charge from 20% to 80% which I will follow and only go to 100% for longer journeys. As technology is forever moving forward on EV batteries and they are far more efficient than they were a few years ago, it is natural for this to continue and if an EV battery needs replacing in 2032, I expect it to be a lot cheaper than it would be now. I have solar panels (which were fitted before I got the car) so I tell myself that this car charges for nothing, as I charge during the day and while it is charging I still have enough energy to fully charge the house storage battery and export back to the grid. On that point of charging my house storage battery and being an optimist, I can see that if an EV battery has to be changed it will still have loads of use for powering household equipment, so I expect some boffin to house the 'old' battery connected to the solar panels (the same as my existing backup battery) and use that to charge the 'new' battery in the car and my washing machine. He or she might be reading this now. Over to you Pondrew and sars. :D
