My near miss caught on dash cam

Well we decided to take advantage of the nice weather today and take the zed out to stretch its legs down the Scottish Borders. We were just about to leave Jedburgh when an idiot in a van pulled out of a junction right in front of me :headbang: . Luckily I was only doing less than 30MPH being in a built up area so was able to stop just in time, otherwise it could have been a totally different outcome and possibly bye, bye zed  The idiot just drove off at speed and never stopped, however I did catch up with him at some temporary traffic lights and a few words were said with the young driver

Just makes my blood boil especially as I think he was on his phone at the time and distracted rather than paying attention to his driving.

Now this is the sort of dash cam footage that's worth posting... What a feckin' eejit. He actually looks like he hesitates then just goes for it anyway. Glad you're ok, great horn action

Thanks Bing, it was Lorrain who was left shaken up by it all. We live to fight another day and no harm or damage done so got to be thankful for that :)

the clip should be sent to his employer

I was thinking that myself, even captured the driver on cam later on. He possibly wasn't even working at the time and just using the van for his own purposes

Damn I thought it was going to be another Taxi/Coach driving properly thread

Seriously though a great example why it pays to have a dash cam fitted nowadays. If you could get a still of the vans door there looks to be firms name on it, don't know if you could get any info off it. I would be sending a copy off to the firm with time location, date and a polite note.

Tim.

Bad enough for you driving swifty, but at least you have some control of the situation. Passenger just has to sit there and hope your on your metal. If you can find them, I definitely would send the footage and a polite note to his employer.

Wow! Very lucky there! Makes me thankful I just had to contend with the tools in Stockbridge on foot! I'm sure everywhere has their fair share of edjits, it just seems to me that when thre roof is off Scotland has a fair few more than the rest of the country.

Saying that even when I had the rag top last time I was forever getting edjits like this. it's almost like they just look for the reelection off the metal roof, don't see one so just think feck it.

Actually we didn't go for a drive as Mike said I'd get annoyed with people like the one in this video and for good reason too!

good catch and bell ends like that are common place on roads nowadays

i give the same response on my horn as you did to make my point lol

Thats getting too close for comfort. You drove away unscathed - something to take away from the episode.

Somewhat reversed roles in terms of relative vehicle size, but, a while ago, I was next car up behind a L200 Warrior that had a car pull out right into its path at about 55mph - It was like an explosion. The Warrior won the engagement. I stopped phoned 999 and by the time I got through, a paramedic was there beside me doing an assessment on the hurt driver. Amazingly, he had just come off shift and was driving the car following me. The driver had a very lucky escape that day.

Unfortunately on closer inspection of the video, the name on the truck is a hire company. Could be hired to either the local authority or a highway company judging by the tools in the back.

Someone needs to get that other guy in here to show him what a near miss actually looks like.

That's proper brown pants stuff! I'd have been foaming at the mouth and calling him a son of a bad woman

If it is a real hire company they might just want to terminate the contract on this particular individual. They're unlikely to want the aggro with local plod investigating an incident. Shame he didn't do something else stupid - that would push it up a notch and get the traffic guys properly interested. An easy prosecution with your evidence….. The reality is they'd likely only give him a warning…. No help to anyone :-(

Need an HGV driver to show him what 44 tonnes will do to his pickup…...

Not a nice way to enjoy your first ride out in the Zed with all it's new bits Nick. :o

Still - good to know the road reading and reaction skills are still top notch

Looks like he didn't see you at all - cursory look and then he pulls out unless he committed, paused and then thought sod it

Think any of the terms used for him above would suit

Good work from you though - glad you and the Zed are ok.

:driving:

Did anyone else notice that the horn is in tune with the radio and in the right key?

Oh, and yes... nice vid, Swiftly. What a dopey sod! Glad you didn't end up in a crunch. :)

I think we need a dedicated near miss thread purely of members of Dash Cam videos, just like the photo Comp thread, possibly with comments on another thread ?
