Just been to my lock-up to find its been broken into yet again, its the 3rd time now! I need the lock-up to store my classic Gti Golf in. Was storing my mountain bike in there for afew days as am having building work done at home, now that gone :x Blessing is my old golf is'nt damaged. The door had two padlocks on it as added security, any ideas how else I can secure the garage door? They used a crowbar type bar to force the door open :x Thanks for an help!

What type of door is it?

Up and over? Bit harder to secure

But you could go for a removable security post concreated in in front of the door

I would look at beefing up what ever door you do have with timber on the inside then you can screw bigger locks to them

Yep its an up and over door, its a council lock-up so I can't put a post in front of the door. Maybe I can beef up door even more,or sleep in there. Waiting to hurt someone

You could try heavy duty hasp locks with coach bolts... if they want to get in though, they'll just axe their way through the door itself... :(

They broke the bit of the bolt off that holds the padlock, boils my piss. Trip to B&Q wkend, but you just know all your doing is slowing them down as they wreck the door :x

Thats a shame about the post

Up and over, go for timber running across the door about 1' from the floor and 1' from the top

Link the timbers together at each end and the middle

Now you can use 4 beefy locks in each corner of the door with coach bolts going all the way through the timber with big washers and maybe a metal plate

Am liking that idea Sam thanks, shall try and close up any gaps that they used the crowbar in to prise open the padlocks also. Maybe with timber. Thanks also Mrlozzer

Sounds like a local that is within view of your unit keeping tabs on it. I wonder if there is a small magnetic switch one could install that would trip an alarm siren. Or you could put an overly obvious (akin to a fake CCTV cam) magnetic switch on the door that might deter a casual thief. Along with the afore mentioned door enhancements.
Sorry to say. There just isn't much honor left among the folk these days.

You could fit one of these. I used to have one on my garage when I lived in Manchester ...

Looks perfect thank you and yes sod the council. Spoke to them earlier and they are going to try and find me a new lock-up/garage. Thank you for all the replies

of course...the more you try and secure the door, the more you are advertising that there is something of value in there 8)

Good that Council will offer you a different lock-up, provided it's not someone watching.

With garage doors not being the strongest, do like the idea of re-inforcing inside with 4*2 bolted to the door, especially at all 4 corners. Having two padlocks top left & right are much more difficult to attack & coupled with that defender padlock in the middle on the floor might just do the trick.

Fingers crossed
