My leather seats and door panels are getting cracked - help!

I started a similar post asking about leather care conditioner, but this is a separate issue. After using Turtle Wax leather cleaner/conditioner on my seats, I've found that rather than bring them back to a "factory" matt finish, they've become slightly squaky and it shows up cracks in the leather more. This is so bad on the passenger door panel that I found myself looking at it in dispair this morning..whilst driving :fightwall:

What should I do to fix this? I'm tempted to just rub them all over with a wet microfibre cloth to try and get the Turtlewax out - would this be the wrong thing to do, or should I do this and then follow with a simple leather conditioner?

I think this is one to stop and take check on, as doing one thing after anonther somewhat blindly is likely to worsen the situation.

I'd post a few close up pics and let the specialist detailer guys on here take a look and make comment. Perhaps it will be a case of using different cleaner then conditioner or getting a specilaist to restore it.

Completely agree with CJ; I'd stop as adding more chemicals & moisture is unlikely to help.

You'll never get the matt finish on the leather back - leather will always wear to a shine, its the just the nature of it. If you want the showroom look back, you're going to have to get it re-trimmed. I'm suprised about the door panels though, unless they've been in the sun alot, they shouldn't be subjected to miuch wear.

Seems odd that the cracks look worse.
I used the same stuff on my seats at the weekend too :o
They do appear a little more shiney but they don't squeek and the cracks aren't any worse, if anything they're a little better. If anything it helped "tone down" the white patches of wear.
I'll probably look for something else for next time though.

For over 20 years I have had a pot of "Connelly hide food" - made by Connelly Leather. Fantastic stuff, used by Aston/Rolls Royce dealerships. You apply it, have a coffee while it soaks in then use a duster to remove the residue. It is almost pure animal fat (but that is what the cow had before it was skinned...). It leaves a very soft & matt finish. After 20 years I still have half the pot left. Bloody good value for money (It cost me £3.50 in 1988).

Can I buy it from you for £10 then? That would be a good mark-up on a half used 20 year old tub of fat :)

Sounds good stuff though

Sold! - but a tub of lard (which is what it really is) does the same job. It isn't Rocket Science - it's just animal fat. After 2-3 days from your death we can gather your dripping body fats & use them to rejuvenate leather seats. Thats what Connelly Hide does.

Trouble is I have no fat. Pure muscle (and no mirrors in the house either)

I might not be the best base ingredient for you new leather treatment

I've got about 7 stone of excess lard with me right now, so if someone wants to pay for the liposuction then they're welcome to either the 'Dream Red' or 'Champagne' tinted animal fats that will be a couple of gallon bottles next to the bed :P
