My knob is stuck!

Gear knob that is. :P

I bought a ZHP gear knob a few weeks ago but have a slight problem in removing the old standard one seems to be impossible. I've had two fairly strong chaps attempt to remove it, and both have failed :o
Has anyone ever had a gear knob that was impossible to remove? Could it possibly have been glued in place at some point in the past?

I know the trick of putting it in second gear, having the roof down so they can stand up and get a good pull, but it just doesn't want to budge.

Anyone with any more ideas?

Does it have an aftermarket knob already or an original one? It's possible that araldite or such has been used - you won't know one way or the other until it's off.

I've seen them welded on in the past too - which required a whole new gear stick & knob to rectify

I'm a weakling but I managed it eventually

Just keep trying, the standard ones don't really have a habit of working loose I don't think, so it would be unusual if someone had glued it down, but I suppose you never know.

its not an aftermarket one with grub screws holding it by any chance, i made this mistake when i changed mine recently.

Nope, it's the bog standard one. It's not me thats trying, I am very much a weakling so didn't even bother. I originaly got a guy at work to try it, if anyone could manage it, I thought it would be him.

Had the same problems with mine but just gently wobbled the 'knob' backwards and forwards and eventually it came off. Replaced it with illuminated one - looks great at night.

Difficult to say Herminator. Once set up to give it a good tug in second, roof open it should come off easily. Problem and worry is that people smack themselves.

My guess is that someone has damaged the plastic spline that stops it rotatong (assuming manula is similar to auto) and then glued it on.

I would put a large timber through the car onto a stool or similar out the other side then a wire cable or nylon strop under the knob and around the timber and just lever it up a bit. It that fails take the shift lever out and onto the bench to sort it.

Pull and moving it about will get it off. Have removed the knob on both my cars without issues. I do sit on the middle console so I don't injure myself and can put a lot of force on it.

Straight up, but it helps to rock a bit left and right.

I feel like such a tit, I got on both seats, looking like I was ready to take a s**t! Then my hands slipped...

Ouch! :o

I've not sorted it yet, I may keep it for a new car...
