hi all
just finished my Iphone insall and thought i would share the details, i made a custom bracket as i wanted something that could be removed easily should i want the stock look, this plays through the Aux channel on the head unit, charges the iphone and has just one short cable in view, i still have the Aux input unused so if i need another device to play its simple

parts used
USB,3.5 to iphone 30 pin plug, £4.99 ebay

iphone holder (slimmest i could find) RAM mount UK

3.5 audio female plug
12 V socket
12V to USB 5v (belkin iphone model)
custom bracket

First i wired in the 12 volt socket from the how too instructions on this forumn, next i soldered 3 new wires into the aux connecting wire between the socket and the stereo (this allows for a stealth connection) and fitted the female socket on the other end.
the cable for the iphone was routed from the ash tray area to the glove box for power and behind the removable panel where it plugged into the new female socket

next i made an MDF plug the same size and shape as the removable ash tray,

to that i fixed a vertical post at around 10 degree,

added a bit of filler and smoothed it all down, a coat of satin black and it looks OEM (ish)

screwed the iphone clip to it,

and there you have it,
with phone

without

back to stock in 30 seconds, no holes or brackets in sight

things to do better
I would add a bit more angle to the phone mount, the upright cant go back any further but the face the phone clip fastens to could have another 10 degree

Click the flickr link to see the pics guys...

Looks good, although not sure about having the iphone all the way down there for the purpose of navigation, but then I know a lot of people like it there

Looks great very sleek, not to P*ss on your parade but i picked one of these up a few months ago truly cracking.

Bit tricky getting it out of the vents, only because i rarely use it apart from sat nav.

no problem, always looking for options, not a fan of vent mounts as i have a pet hate for dangling cables, thats why its all tucked up with just one cable for sound and power
i have been looking at installing the iphone in the sun glass holder, this would be quite neat as its just to close it and all is out of site from the theiving gits lurking on the streets, its only the PIA of threading a cable up the A pillar and across the roof section thats stopping me

Hi, great job. I did not realise you could get one of those data/audio cables. Do you know if the connector fits an iPhone 4 with the bumper?

Not 100% sure, the connector looks like every iPod or iPhone lead I have ever used but I don't have the IPhone 4
Are docking devises different for the 4?

Basically you just fit an aux power socket tapped into a spare live socket on the fuse block, make sure it's one that's off when ignition is off or the charger is on all the time
