Ive always liked my music in the car and having a mid engined mk1 mr2 for the pass 3 years meant i couldnt do much with its 4 and 3.5 inch speakers apart from upgrade them and add an alpine swe-1000 for abit of bass. Now that ive got a boot i decided to go big, original plan was to use an existing vibe A2 amp with a 12" pionner 307C subwoofer but then i spotted 2 brand new pioneer 304C's on ebay going cheap and after having them in my 1.5TD Nova many years ago knew that had some serious kick.
I went for the alpine CDA-9886R headunit which has all the extras including full speed ipod control, order an iso adapter (PC2-75-4), aerial adapter (PC5-100) and fascia (CT24BM06)

I had previously tried running the subwoofers and amp of the stock headunit using a high to low level adapter patched into the rear speakers but it sounded rubbish and i had no control over the bass.
Because i had the parts i used my Ai-Net Aux in adapter and using some pc mobo leads wired it to the stock Aux-in so its still functional.

Not the best picture as it was gettin dark but heres the headunit installed...

I have to say the fascia was the worse fitting ive ever seen, it took some modding to get it to fit but i'm still not 100% happy so i might need to try the offical bmw one. Ive run the ipod lead into the glove box so its out the way, there just isnt anywhere to put anything in the Z4.
Now for the business end, 2x Pionner 304C's in 1 cu.ft boxes running of a Vibe A2 amp rated at 325w rms bridged....

Now i know this isnt everyones cup of tea but it rocks, just the headunit alone is an improvement over the business cd player. Theres a real nice bass note for your everyday listening and when you want to wake some neighbours theres lots and lots more bass, and its the nice deap low bass i was after not that distorted thuddy bass which i cant stand. I havnt had much chance to set it all up yet but over the next week i'll fine tune it.
Future plans are to first dynamat the whole boot as the rear bumper vibrates at high volumes. Then i'll look at upgrading the speakers and ive been looking into the Imprint addon for my headunit.
