My first problem!

After 8 weeks of great fun I have my first problem. The fuel pump has started to whine. I took it to my local dealer and after a bit of 'they all sound like that' its because you are sitting really close to it, propbably just dirty petrol etc, we sat in another new one and silence. I only use Shell and its only done 2k miles so just a faulty pump I would say. The car is booked in in a couple of weeks at which time I assume they wont come up with any reason why it could be my fault - I accept things do go wrong and would have prefered that response fronm the dealer.

It was a common problem on the 335i too so maybe it sounds like they still haven't managed to sort it. I'm sure they'll replace it under warranty.

Has the performance been affected, or is it just a noise?

Not only the high pressure pumps of the bi-turbo 35i N54 engine, but also my 30i N52 started first to whine and then the sound changed to a 'humming' one. My pump is replaced tomorrow. I hope they don't break anything else.

Honestly can't say I've noticed anything from my sDrive 23i, and I've had the car for 5 months now. Is it more noticeable from inside or out?

I thought the whine was only associated with the high pressure pumps, and the direct injection engines... is that right?

After a two week wait for the car to go in - I had a call from the dealer this afternoon with the annoucement that the fuel pump was faulty/ noisy. I know I said that we worked out 2 weeks ago, but they needed to order the parts in. Why? They told me before any parts could be sent out that BMW required a full check to be made. A bit strange as the fault was obvious but the parts are in tommorrow and I should get a much quieter car back.
