my first ever CEL!! lol

Well yesterday after buying the car new in 2007 i got my first CEL.

I decided yesterday morning to get out for a real nice run, beautiful sunshine, 6 deg C weather, and BY god did the car feel strong, TQ felt soo much stronger and the car just hauled from low and became a banshee @ the top end, so so so so pleased with the Supercharger still to this day, amazing power deliver.... and T/C flashing in 3/4rd gear today!!! lol

now when i got home i left her idling on the drive for 2 mins so i can check the oil, turned the car off then 10 mins later got back into the car to drive into the garage, cranked her over and Their it is....

my first ever CEL in this car.... Car is still on the original 02 sensors...

anyway i pulled the codes and got

02 heater circuit malfunction (bank 1, sensor 2), the second code was the same again with the words "pending code" next to it..... now i cleared the codes and ran the car up and nothing???? no CEL, no pending code being registered.......

still really pleased with the car and the issue is a common one, so now as usual ill go over the top, my code reader shows me bank 1 sensor 2 which is post cat...... i will be replaceing the 2 sensors post cat even though only 1 has failed/is failing as preventative maintance, i will then reset the codes and see how we go........ BTW car runs perfectly fine still.....

here you go guys just for future reference, the sensors im replacing are 9/10 on the illustration, please please please dont pay the stealers to do this, its a 1hrs work max!!

excuse the spelling please guys im rushing as my baby boy is trying to get my attention!! lol

Cant lie, its a poor show that these have failed on a car with 10,800 miles...... but as its a common issue i wont moan about it, pleased to say this is the first CEL light this car has had!!, also ran some test and diagnostics show no codes at all relating to the supercharger, the car is running SPOT ON!!

Nice post, where are you buying the sensors BMW or from Bosch?

Take it you just get it up on stands and wiggle these things out?

ill be buying the sensors from bmw as i can get trade discount on parts, also if they fail again within a silly time frame ill be getting new ones free..... like i say 10k miles for these type of sensors is pretty pathetic imo and could potentially cost a small fortune if these need regular replacement...... Re removal you need a 02 removal spanner/set and engine end unclips, exhaust side is a 22mm hex nut........ i dont know where the engine side plugs in, ill have a more detailed look once surgery begins.... if you guys want me to do a DIY im happy to do so..... ill then plug the car in @ the end of the work and reset the codes and hopefully job will be a goodun, luckily the POST cat sensors will have no effect on the running of the car at all, ive cleared the codes for now and it hasnt come back but im going to replace both post cats now as preventative maintenance....

When replacing them ...

when i do this ill make a step by step...... its a shame it didn't happen earlier in the year tbh..... at least in summer id have had this done already..... now with winter looming i have to get the car over to my moms to use here garages..... my garage is simply to small to even bother trying..... and i dont fancy doing it on the driveway in the current weather situation, luckily im in no rush now, sensors will be ordered today and then ill do it @ the next opening in my schedule, its abit difficult as my son is staying with me for the next few weeks at least....... he is taking up every single second of my time... ha ha ha
