My First Detailing Effort!

My first attempt at Detailing,

Wash Wheels
Wash Body (two Buckets)
Dry
Meguires CLay Kit and Fast Detailer
Dry
AG Paint Renovator for light scratches
AG Resin Polish
Turtlewax ice (i know but speed was of the essence next time i'll go for Paste Wax i think although result is very good)

not too bad! could have done with an inside area to do it and would have liked more time... also need a pressure washer!!!!

How did claying go for you? I've just ordered my first one too so will give it a go next weekend :)
 
Claying was surprisingly easy... make sure it is very well lubricated... also VERY clean before you start i struggled a bit on the lower panels especially the front and behind the wheels as i hadn't washed as well as i would have liked. so i think a pressure washer is preferable and lots of time to do it right. Once it is done though it really is glass smooth for polishing.

Great job. I love claying my car now - also done my mother's car and planning on doing the girlfriend's in the next couple of weeks. It's amazing the difference it makes and how much it freshens up old paintwork.
 
Good effort - especially with those MV2's which must be pretty tricky yo clean.. black looks amazing within 5 mins of a wash (after that its magically get dirtty again!)
 
Scottb - don't worry i will roll in the professional when i can afford it! i did quite enjoy it i just wanted to make sure i could maintain it after the event... bit concerned about the orange peel on the boot lid and also there is a shockingly done re-spray on the front bumber, drips and everything! Halfords by the look of it! i reckon on the claying it needs a better wash and then re-do some of the lower panels... amateurs eh! (me) the hologramming is pretty much gone but a few light scratches like swirls but straight still in places (probably me before i was educated!)

Gaza62 - the renovator was a one off just for the first time, as i have only had the car a month so wanted to get rid of the little scratches this time round... never again!

Also i plan to do a proper paste wax when i have an indoor environment to do the job properly... (or have someone do it for me)

Pro's arent always neccessary mate if you have the time and patience matey ( trying to put myself out of business as I go on :D )
You would of found using a slightly less aggresive polish then using a finishing polish the paint would of been even more crisper.
The light swirls may of been induced by the AG renovator not being broken down well enough but the main thing is youve got it to a point that your happy with so far.
What wax you thinking of?
 
you're too honest for your own good!

i used the paint renovator only on small patches where there were actual scratches then used the Autoglym resin polish for the rest (is this aggressive?)
on the light swirls what do you mean by "broken down well enough" is that my technique?
on the wax i'm not sure yet... i have been checking some of your posts and i am thinking dodo juice as you seem to rate it...?

what is turtlewax ice then is this a wax or a polish, it was really only for ease of use at the time.

AG paint renovator is aggresive, AG srp is a simple polish that cleans the paint and fills light swirls/scratches.

When using more aggresive/abrasive products, you will tell when they are broken down as they start to go slightly clear thats when there broken down and done.
 
looks great...your welcome to come and practice on mine! I hate cleaning the wheels!

Thanks, very encouraging. Was going to have a go today but the deliverly cam a bit too late (3pm). So ended up snow foaming the misuss' car and even gave it a wax (ok, turtle wax :oops: ). But she's happy so I might be able to convince her for G220 :P
