My car smells like WEED

I know right?!

For the record, I don't smoke weed, never have and never will, I really despise the smell. And low and behold my car now stinks of it.

Not every time, but whenever I leave the car over night or for a long period of time and come back to it, the cockpit wreaks of it. No one I know smokes it and certainly no one who gets in my car smokes it...anyone had any strange smells before - could it be the Air Con needing a replacement?

As you've suggested, it could be in need of an anti-bacterial/fungus treatment for the air-con.

I get mine done about every 2 years.

Haha thankfully I have a friend in the force, on the dog patrol, he got his dog to do a good sniff and he didn't find anything, as my first thought was the prev owner left a big baggie in there...

..no such luck, that could of paid for my new lights!

Ah, good shout, worth a try as a quick fix to see if that is it.

Unfortunately spent a year living with someone who had a awesome group of weed smoking friends and my house used to smell like my BMW does now.

I reckon you've got a leak. Damp can smell like weed sometimes actually.

Cabin filter would be first course of action, and get on the floor/behind seats and check for wet carpet.

Ok, i'll check that too but if that was the case, wouldn't it smell like weed most of the time? This is only occasionally

As previously stated, it may well be bacteria in the climate system. The difference between smelling and not may be down to whether the climate system is heating or cooling. I had a car that stank whenever it was heating but was fine when the Aircon was active. Its worth replacing the cabin filter if it hasn't been changed recently. Failing that an anti bacterial treatment should sort it out. Also, does the boot smell?

I would ask 'your dealer' to do both:

1) anti-bacterial/fungus treatment for the air-con -- they put it on a machine that tries to clear out the system ... and leave it running for many hours
2) replace cabin microfilter

Do both at the same time, or you may be wasting your money if one gets infected again.

That's the one, I think you just need to unscrew a flap and it clips out.
