My car is running rough

Hi guys 1st post here. I have a query and was hoping someone could help. I was out this evening in the car and I appreciate that it wasnt warmed up but it wasnt running well. The timing just appeared to be out or something. It wasnt missing or anything and the revs seemed steady enough when at idle but the best way to describe it was that it was running rough at idle. Just recently had an oil and filter change - car is an late 06 Z4 Coupe with 9k miles on it. Anyone any ideas what it may be?

Hmm, I'm not aware of any recalls on the Si, but my 325Ci did that a couple years ago and it was the coils. Oil and filter change shouldn't get close to those. Did you have it done at a dealer?

Nope my Dad is a mechanic and has his own independent garage - was there when he did it just to make sure he wasnt messing around! He is over at the GP in Monza otherwise I would be asking him, but the oil service was done perfectly and there were no issues - it was done about 1000 miles ago as there is still about 6k miles to go before Inspection 1.

Odd, I have nothing to contribute other than saying that mine (an 03 3.0i) doesn't feel rough at all.

My '07 3.0si had exactly the same symptoms, although mine actually conked out completely at a set of traffic lights with the red EML light coming on.

The fault logger at the dealers identified an error on the 'fuel rail' (I'm not technically minded so I dont even know what that is), they suspected that it was caused by allowing the fuel level in the tank to drop to near empty or by poor quality petrol.

Filling the tank up and keeping it topped up a bit with decent quality petrol did appear to cure the problem over a few trips though.

make sure the oil filler cap has been fitted correctly and is sealing properly, if not the car will idle rough and splutter when driving.
