Multi car policy?

It looks like I'll be getting a second car soon for commuting (looking at a Nissan Leaf..) but as it will be the first time I've had a second car I'll have no no-claims to use on it :|

Does anyone have any good suggestions for an insurer who may be able to mirror over my current 9 years no claims from my Z4? which is due for renewal in a couple of months anyway.

Whilst CK gave me a reasonable quote for having 0 no claims but already having a car insured with them, they said they don't do a multi car policy.

Admiral - you may have to argue a bit with them over the NCB mirroring but they should eventually agree

yep, another for Admiral. Have used them for a couple of years now - PITA when you want to change the policy details as they try to insist on an admin fee - for the last year or so, all documents are on line so the admin fee argument doesn't work and is usually discarded. Claims are handled well though and helpdesk is UK based (so no dodgy sounding "Stephen" with a Mumbai accent). You will need to price match each year as they try to bump up the premiums slightly.

Just got an online quote from Admiral, not too bad for both cars combined it was less that CK wanted for just the new Leaf. It says it only used the no claims on the Z4 but for the price it must be taking it into account on both cars.

Waiting for A Plan to contact me.

I've been with Chris Knott for a couple of years now and they've been well priced and good to deal with but I wish they could do a better deal for multi cars.

Admiral worked for me. Also insured my son on our policy, 18 driving for 9 months great price & gets 1 years no claims in August our renewal date.

my worry about multicar is that they all renew at once, as i pay up front then its going to be costly when i come to renew

i couldn't understand why the policies could ot start from the existing dates - before i switched to multicar if that makes sense

It's because Multicar is a single policy, Taz, even though it covers multiple cars. Downside is that is you have protected no claims, they are on the policy as well, not the cars - so one claim counts as a strike against all the cars. It's something that isn't publicised, but is in the small print.

Which is fair enough as it's the driver that has the accident not the car - even if you had cars on separate policies with different companies and had a claim, you have to inform all your coverholders and would lose no-claims on all of them at renewal.

You can get the multi-car discounts with multiple drivers, my wife and I currently have a multi-car policy with Admiral and had to sync the renewals but, should one of us have a claim, only the driver claiming loses a chunk of no-claims, the other retains theirs - I checked this with them when we set it up.

We are with Admiral and had 5 cars when I got the Z, 5 is the limit so I had to take out another policy £263 for the Z with Admiral.

i was not aware of that

We'll place each car with the best insurer for that vehicle - the likes of Admiral have only their own product to use. This means with us you get the best rate per vehicle and we add a multi-car discount in too. You still have just the one contact for all your needs... CKI, but the benefit of individually priced cover and a choice of insurers/products.

A Plan couldn't get close to Admiral even though they said they could mirror NCB, they were pretty close to CKI though.

It always seems to be Admiral who come out cheapest for me when comparing the more main stream insurers, CKI have been my go to insurers for the last 2-3 years but I guess I'll be going back to Admiral this year.

If you've found cheaper we'd be pleased to see if we can use that to get the insurer to reduce their rate. Always worth a quick phone call.

It's cheaper due to it being for both cars combined, £744 for both with Admiral vs £850 for just the Leaf with 0 NCB and another £400ish for the Z4M with 9 years NCB.
