Muliple SRS Error Codes that won't clear

I have an airbag light coming on that ISTA-D won't clear. Running a fault code test shows multiple codes:

98D3 - SBSR Short Circuit Firing Circuit Front Airbag or Passengers Airbag
95AB - SBSR Control Unit Fault
98D7 - SBSR Open Circuit Firing Circuit Firing Circuit Front Airbag
98F6 - SBSR Resistance firing circuit safety battery terminal
98D8 - SBSR Controkl Unit Fault
98D6 - SBSR Resitance Firing Circuit Front Airbag Too High

I have searched this forum and most people appear to only have one code and it usually relates to either the battery cable positive detonator or steerring wheel clockspring.

Has anyone else experienced this amount of faults and any ideas?
 
Any history surrounding the codes at all-

Example- water ingress, seat swaps etc?

I think your plethora of codes may be separate issues but I’d be looking at the right satellite module- that seems to be the root?

No changes to seats, I am suspicious about water ingress though. I have had a long standing issue of water enterring the boot https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2102688#p2102688. I have never got to the bottom of it despite investigating the main culprits (including drain channels that freely flow water out when I hose the hood). My drive is on slope and I have always parked facing up the hill to make it easy to exit onto the main road. I decided a number of weeks ago to try turing the car around and the water stopped leaking into the boot. However the car itself has bad condensation and I am suspicious it may now be leaking into the car. The only thing is the airbag light first came on before I changed parking direction.
 
I'd put money on a dead SBSR. On the plus side they are easier to source than the SBSL.
Can you get the part number? I think your ISTA should tell you.
Then Realoem will tell you which other part numbers are compatible.

Word of warning for you: if it's water ingress and the right side is dead then you need to get your yaw sensor under the drivers seat bagged up pronto.
 
Next step for me is to get a look at the satellite module

I am fairly sure sbsr is drivers side but someone will confirm…

See if it looks like it’s had water damage- and get the number of the module posted up. From there you can see if it’s a rare or more common one if the need arises for a replacement

Yes, SBSL is left, SBSR is right and SIM85 is the centre one.

Yaw sensor is under the middle of the drivers seat.
Seat out and then lift the carpet at the join. I suspect you may find the foam under the carpet a tad damp.
The SBSR is bolted on the inner vertical face at the rear of the door sill, at the base of the B-pillar. It can be seen by removing the sill trim and the trim section behind that, then pulling the carpet forward. If you were to slide the seat fully back and down, it would be about in line with where the seatbelt bolts to the seat.
It is secured with 3x 8mm nuts.
 
Thanks for all your help enuff_zed. I think it is going to take a fair bit of work to get to the bottom of it and I am without a garage at the moment and up to my neck in house renovations, so my current thinking is to cover the car over with my stormguard cover and come back to it when I am in a better position to look at it. I will have to hope if water ingress is the root cause that things don't get much worse, which I realise they could. I will probably pack the car with dehumidfiers too in the hope that it dries things out, although I accept this may be a longshot.

With a bit of luck I might clear enough space to fit the car in the garage in a few weeks then I can start to get it apart.

I would dearly like to know how water is getting in, re my other post, but I am at a loss to understand. Without knowing this it could keep happening.
 
Open the door and run a hose along the base of the window. Look to see if water runs out at the base of the door card, about 6 inches back from the front edge. The membrane can lift away there and let water run into the footwell.

Thanks for that tip. I have covered it up at the moment while I try to sort out the joists in my lounge floor (more of a priority to avoid earache), once that is done in 2-3 weeks time, I get get our lounge stuff out of the garage and I will be able to start work on it. I will definately try what you suggest as it makes good sense. The only thing is, it doesn't explain the leak into the boot, but that may not be the root cause of the SRS problems. Looks like an interesting investigation coming up.
