Muffler delete

Hey guys im new here! Ive had my 06 z4 3.0si for about 2 years now and i just got a muffler delete to make it a little louder before i think about getting a new exhaust or something. Everything else is stock. I dont know much about cars but the videos ive seen made the zed sound much nicer than stock so i got it done and now its sound a biiit louder than i wanted it(been told it sounds like a mean ol m5). And not to mention that it pops a whole lot when i release the gas. Even at low rpms driving in traffic i get a little pop on release. I like the pop but the frequent popping i get in traffic is becoming an unwanted attetion getter. Plus i feel like i lost some acceleration power.

So my question is what should i do to reduce the popping and did i actually lose some power from the muff delete?

I found my loss of power was down to a completely broken disa valve when I had mine de backboxed I had it rolling road at about 190bhp. I then put the exhaust back to standard and it dropped further to 180bhp. Fixed the disa valve and its back up there at 230 like it should be.

Never had any specific data but my 3.0si Auto always felt slower with the delete on. A lack of backpressure used to kill the low down torque, as soon as I swapped the original box back on it felt like much more of a rocket again.

I ended up having the OEM backbox cut open and the wadding removed. It didn't really do much but added the worlds smallest noise gain. Probably better off having a custom exhaust made to meet your requirements.

i had the backbox removed on a previous 330ci e46 - it sounded hideous, chavvy & everyone looked at you like you were a boy racer knob head, quickly removed it after a few days & re-fitted oem backbox :D

I wanted more noise from mine, but a back box delete, nah im too old :D , so after reading thro posts on the back box bi-pass, I opted for that,
Tried 12 mm pipes first, wernt happy , to quite, so put 25mm pipework on , got it (right for me ), and more importantly Mrs M likes it to.
Got a few comments on last weekends Northumberland run, (positive ones I think )
And no loss of power either,
Do a search on the forum loads of info .
Cheers Maurice
