Mtec drilled disc scoring

Hi

I've had 4 Mtec drilled discs fitted a 100 miles ago and I have scoring after some of the holes that go all around the disc.

Has anyone else had this ?

I'm waiting to hear back from Mtec.

I've got photos but don't know how to put them on the thread.

Cheers

Rob

This is my standard explanation of how to post pictures using PhotoBucket as an example (because it's free)

- Set up a PhotoBucket account at http://photobucket.com/

- Upload photos to your new PhotoBucket account

- When you look at the photo on PhotoBucket, you'll see an IMG code

- Copy this IMG code and paste it into your post here

e.g. To get the picture below to display, I've pasted in the IMG code

IMG]http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv72/PerryGunn2009/lakester.jpg[/IMG]

but in that line, I've deleted the initial '[' before IMG so you can see the code - the full line, with the '[' reinstated, gives this

Did you install new pads at the same time - as the ones in the photo look like a piece of wood :P

If not, it's possible that the old pad had the wear pattern of the old disc on it and is now trying its best to transfer that pattern onto the new disc.

The alternative is that something had got stuck between the caliper & pad and is scoring the disc.

I fitted mine around 500 miles ago and they are fine
Is it just the one disc ? Looks like you've picked something up which has damaged the disc

New mintex pads.
It seems to be on the rear 2 discs.

I've gently braked since being fitted.
Mtec have replied saying it's not a manufacturing fault.

Seems this guy had the same issue, my scores are directly inline with the centre of the holes.

I thought could it be swarf from when they were drilled or paint ?

I'm wondering if I should do a few hard stops to warm up the rears as the fronts are no way as bad ?

Could be.
First I'd get the pads off see if something has stuck to it, a piece of metal or so.
Sometimes a pebble can get stuck and cause some scoring.

Is it possible pad deposits are building up in the holes then releasing when cooling down and then being dragged around the circumference of the disc directly in line with the holes causing the scoring?

OP it could well be worth repeating the bedding in procedure as stated by the pad manufacturer for the type of pads your using. Normally there is a leaflet in with the pads which will tell you what to do.

The instructions said to do gentle braking for a few miles.
But
I've just been for a drive and did some heavy braking and cooling down in between and the scoring has virtually gone !!

I'll take photos when it stops raining.

Glad to hear. Normally bedding in procedures do include some heavy braking, although some do say just light use for the first 2/300 miles so can be a little conflicting.

What mmm-five says. Looks like FM has got between the pad and disc :o

I was of the understanding that bedding in for a car like ours should always be repeated cycles of gradually increasing speed and braking down to about 10mph, hard. So 20mph, 30mph, 50 and then 70 for example. 4 or 5 times at each speed, never stopping on the brakes. You need a nice quiet piece of road to do it properly, then a nice gentle drive using the brakes as little as possible for a while to let them cool. When I did mine on my last car the brakes were literally smoking by the end of it, but perfectly bedded in.
