MR2 styling

I remember seeing a brand new red MK1 Toyota MR2 when was about 12 years old and thinking it was the best looking car I had even seen. And the car was still a bit of a looker when it changed to the curvy Mk2. I was then away for a few years, and when I came back I could not believe my eyes with what they had done to the design in the Mk3. For a little while I didn't even realize these ugly cars I was occasionally seeing were actually MR2's. Does anybody else think the car is hideous or is it just me ?

Always regret never having had a mk one. A colleague had a mk3 and it drove a whole lot better than it looked - definitely fugly though.

I think that's what is bugging me. If they hadn't screwed up the looks I would most likely be driving an MR2 today, even over the Z.

I had both a mk1 (albiet, only for two month till it died), and then a mk2 for a fair deal of time.
Brilliant cars, and excellent styling for both of them.

I refuse to accept that Toyota's new(ish) mid-engined roadster is an MR2.

Funnily enough, I nearly bought one a few years back. They didn't look that bad back then. A bit like a porsche I thought.

Looking back now, I agree they are pretty ugly :|

Ive had a glimited import MK2 (sw20) and a UK spec mk2 as well, but both Tbar models. Loved them, and the 16v engine is very good and very reliable. Only thing with the UK one, it never had power steering for some reason! But they look dated now, and yes what a shame about the new one. But as said it drives very well apparently. But imo that is a girls car

When I was looking for a second hand, speedy, good looking 2 seater I almost had no choice than the Z4. There was just nothing else good looking and fast for say between £10k-£17k

Don't get me wrong, I like the Z4. But if Toyota had sorted the looks of the MR2, and if Mazda had made their MX5 a bit more manly and stuck a 2.5l engine in it they would have been obvious contenders.
