Mr12V MMI

Hey all,

So I am about to pull the trigger on a Mr12v MMI, but have a couple of questions - I have tried to contact that, but they are not returning email (which is a concern in itself)

Has anyone here done an install? I have watched some youtube videos, and it seems all good - with a couple of questions.

I am confused re the while CD change thing. I Gather mine as it - pic attached. (I actually don't even own a CD to be able to test LOL)

There is some talk of having to "code' things - That lost me! I gather that is through some BMW interface?

Lastly - The vids showed a supplied Mic (better than OEM) But there is no mention of this on the Mr12V page now. Not included anymore?

Sorry for all the questions, but it's not a cheap or quick upgrade, so I want to get it right.

Cheers
J

I’ve installed it in mine and it’s not that difficult, infact the newer version is even easier as you don’t have to connect the idrive controller and it uses the existing microphone.

You will need to code multi changer to your head unit if you don’t already have it. This needs to be done before the install, as it cannot be done with the box installed.

It’s a great system. Sound quality is very good and updates the car to the modern world standard.

Just to add the CD isn’t the one in the head unit it’s referring to a 6 cd changer either in the glovebox or boot, some car pre coded for this and some not, you would have to check your vehicle order/vin decoder.

It's different to the video that Dave (AnubisZed) put together previously and as described by Chippie it is easier.

I struggled with the under cowl microphone as the connectors are small and fiddly, I ended up with long needle nose pliers to do it.

I put the unit on top of the glovebox as I struggled to get it behind the CIC head unit. Be careful with the MOST cable as it is fibre optic and needs to be routed cleanly with no kinks.

Do a VIN decoder to find out if you have CD Changer prep (https://www.mdecoder.com/decode). I believe it is S694 you're looking for

If you drop the dash under tray of the drivers side you can slide it in behind the console. It’s only three torx screws. Also easy for updates.

See Dave’s video on YouTube for mmi install

Coding cd player is fairly easy if you have the odbc and coding programs

Installing is fiddly a little but fairly easy if you like to diy

Fitted one in my e89 and a Mini Cooper both working well

For coding I tried various different platforms. I have settled on a cheap Samsung A15 £96 new from Amazon. I usb K-DCAN cable and Protool. You can just purchase the coding license or diagnostics. I bought both. Very easy to use and handy to keep in the car. 👍

Thanks everyone.

I can't seem to get any of the VIN decoder sites to work, or give me any information that makes any sense. :( Sorry... this is my first BMW, so I am way behind the 8 ball on this one.

If I have to code, what do I need? Hardware wise? Software wise. If it is Windows based, I am in trouble - I only have a Mac.

Any help would be awesome.

Are you putting in your VIN (example: 1GNEK13ZX3R298984) rather than your reg? Your VIN is printed on the car, usually on a plate on the bottom of the windscreen

John,

I've replied back to you on YouTube, but for indepth information then either post here or send me a PM and we can discuss it properly.
The main thing is finding out what your Vehicle Order (VO) is, this will tell you if you have a CD Changer (CDC)(672) or CDC Prep(694) or neither. If you have neither 672 or 694 then you'll definately need coding to add 672 to the VO, but if you have one or the other then you "shouldn't" need to do any coding!

Hi Dave,

Thanks man - Yeah - I replied on Youtube - but better here. :)

The OPTIONS list tells me...

694
Preparation For Cd Changer
Cd-wechsler Vorbereitung

So maybe I am good to go. :)

While I have you....

I have a camera behind my rear view mirror - Not sure what it is... I thought Adaptive Cruise, but someone said they never had them. But the OPTIONS list this...

544
Cruise Control With Braking Function
Geschwindigkeitsregel. Mit Bremsf.

It is hard to get a pic because of the reflection of the windscreen - but certainly looks like some sort of sensor. There appears to be a light sensor next to it too - I would suggest for the Auto High Beam?

5AC
Autom. High-beam Headlights Control
Fernlichtassistent

Anywho.... I am learning lots now! Still worried that I have no reply from Mr12V and I want to place an order - but a bit scared now. :(

Excellent, yes that should be fine  You should get away with no coding.

I'm assuming you mean something like this...

This is the 5AC High Beam Assist option.

And not just this...
mirror2.jpg

As this is the Automatic Mirror Dimmimg option.

As for Mr12volt, yeah not good that they've not replied, but as Reamesy says above, use their Whatsap to talk to them.
Also, there is a massive on-line thread regarding the Mr12volt box (currently on 87 pages!) with loads of info and help. Yes it is for the E90/92 M3 but as it runs the same iDrive system it is 100% useful

Ahh... So Auto dipping High Beam?

What is the sensor just to the right?

Thanks heaps for all your help! Steep learning curve, but getting there.

I have ordered the Mr12V system - so fingers crossed.

Hi All,

So I have just installed Mr12V MMI but I can't the Z4 to see it. When I go to CD, it just says - NO DISK.

I have a coder and BimmerCode, but I don't know what I need to change.

Any help would be great.

Cheers
