So uploaded a 1280*480 splash screen of my own and also replaced the Mr 12 Volt Icon in the apps screen with a tasteful BMW logo..

If folks want a detailed how to ..let me know..

Hi - you offered to provide insights into how you changed the Home Icon in carplay. I've managed to change the boot screen, but not the icon yet. Any help would be much appreciated!

Create a .png file 120x120 pixels called “carplay_120x120.png”

Place in a folder on a fat 32 usb stick called ‘msn_factory_configs`

Insert in usb flying lead..reboot and it should see it ..may have a momentary lapse of reason and try and play it..just persevere and it should load et voila !

Thanks so much!

So after a few days of steadily working through the 2nd order issues caused by the new woofers, the MMI box, the carbon fibre trim and the front and rear car cams we are there ..

Had an issue where the Garmin USB plug was DOA…had to pop the centre console to use a who-flung-dung no brand usb 12v plug to get power to the cameras..

Bit of vacuuming after all the crap fell out of the cabin filter..fresh interior mats..not quite as good as I’d hoped for but heh ho..the same company did a great job on the Volvo but these just weren’t as good..

One of the c/f trims for the light switch wasn’t fully seated so a night on the bench with some wood clamps and some 2 pack epoxy glue fixed that..

MMI box seems stable ..

The mic sitting inside the trim cover over the steering shaft seems a bit deaf..I have to shout…

I’ll need to code out the BMW standard audio assist button so it calls Siri plus hook up the car cams to each other…the rear Garmin Mini 2 gets speed and location data from the front Garmin car cam..

A few videos on YouTube to try and give more of a perspective on the work..

I have the Mic in the same location. I've 3D-printed myself a little housing adapter that allows the (somewhat directional) Mic to point upwards at and angle through the Mic grille. It seems to do ok, although the quality of the Mic itself is not all that outstanding. Suggest that you consider reorienting the Mic in the same way. Btw, I've removed the little electret Mic from the bulky plastic housing. If you decide to revisit the Mic situation, the top of the steering wheel cover can be completely removed. After you unclipped the top part, you can pull it forward towards you and pop out the leather cover part. Should give you more room to put your hotglue skills to work.

Unfortunately, didn't think to take pictures...

If you can get me a picture of your 3D printed adapter that would be good.. :tumbleweed:

Would you share the 3MF file?
