Moving to Hereford / Where to go?

Hi everyone, this will be a bit long winded to get to my point, but please bare with me.

As the title says, my folks and I are moving away from Oxford and will be moving to a village just outside Hereford. I don't have any family or friends in this area, so have no idea about any garages reputations etc. Please can any of the members here, please recommend any decent garages, that can look after the care of my Z4MR?

We are moving to a village called "Kingsthorne" , so if there are any places within 10 to 20 miles from there, it would be great to know.

On a side note, because we've got no family or friends in the area, I don't know if there is much of a car scene in the area, where people meet up once a month, or even if there is a small club with different types of cars in it's ranks?

Cheers,

Dan

Normally when I am on my strong meds I waffle on like crazy (every Thursday).

I noticed a lot of sporty or as my Pops and I say "interesting" car around Hereford when I went to view the house and give my ok.

The poor bloke who is selling his house to us, is actually an M4 owner and has a couple sports bikes, told me where he roughly goes to have some fun. The drive over to Hereford was murder, as there were so many "slow" zones and enough cameras to fill an anime conventions "Cosplay" section!

Here in Oxford, I have been part of the staff that ran a successful monthly meet and club, but "mixed" meets tend to be bloody stressful, as you often get idiots show up, who care nothing for being in a club or respecting the location so it can be used again. So I would want to do just Z as doing a BMW meet would be risky as knowing my luck, I would be flooded with idiots in "drift" (knackered) E36 328i's , who want to show off their Initial D touge skills :headbang: . If you watch any of Adam C's car meet YouTube videos, you can see what I mean!

I guess once we're all settled in our new home in Hereford, I can start working out getting a meet up and running from the spring onwards?

I went to Hereford a few times some years ago when I was working as a loss adjuster handling an insurance claim for a certain company producing cider.

It's a lovely part of the world, but not exactly easy to get to!

Some great roads, but you need to be aware of farm traffic. :o

Your not bloody wrong I can tell you! It's about 78 miles door to door and it took over 2 bloody hours to get there. So many tiny built up sections that drop the speed down to either 30 or 40mph time and time again. The amount of frigging speed cameras dotted along the route was the most I have ever seen outside of the M25!

The difference in house prices between Oxford and Hereford just shows how over inflated prices are here. Because of how easy it is to get to Bristol , Gloucester and Cheltenham from Hereford, it made it a good choice to us all to move to. I was able to walk around Hereford city centre during half term and it didn't feel overwhelming for me, as the population size is about 10% of Oxfords.

I really hope I will get to know the roads well in the area, as it be pretty cool to do some forum meet and drive in the area. For now, I'm just waiting for my car to be finished and seeing how I feel about the car when it's back.

Good access to the Brecons in the west and the Shropshire Hills to the north from Hereford. I'm based in Stafford and I have seen other forum members post that are based in Staffordshire, West Mids, and Manchester (and surrounding area). I would have thought, with some planning, you could get people across for a drive through that amazing countryside. I'd be interested. Caveat: the weather has to be better than it's been for the last few weeks!

I cant help with the garages,, but as a born and bred Herefordian, it is a lovely county, I kow Live in Kent but go back regularly, there are some great driving roads, as mentioned the Brecons of course, there is also a great run from Kington (near Leominster) to the Elan Valley, well worth a visit, as there are some superb dams, lakes and views

My parents still live just down the hill from Kingsthorne! Grew up there and know if well - have lots of mates around there still. Lovely little pub called the castle. PM me if you want to catch up - might be able to link you up with a few people. Dave

Can’t think of anywhere closer than about Forza West in Chepstow...but you’ve got plenty of decent roads less than an hour away

A little further is Redish is Bristol.

Don't start watching Redish's YouTube vids. You'll starting lusting after one of their full underbody treatments and I can't imagine they're cheap. Proper "back, sack and crack" job. :D :o

Update guys, looks like we might be moving on the 27th of this month. Would anyone be willing to meet up and go out for a drive, so I get learn some roads that weekend please?

I can possible offer bribes of playing with my new puppy for those who come

Hi mate. Hope the move goes well. I’m not going to be back in Hereford for a while but will let you know when I’m in the area. There are some decent roads behind little birch / Holme Lacy. Go exploring but watch out as the country roads are tight and people can drive fast on them...

Hi, I'm down in Newport but originally from Malvern, part of the Zroadster crowd down here and we run a Zed shed between us when we need doing anything to our cars, majority are Z3's but I have a 1.9 Z3 and a 2.5 Z4 to keep me occupied. We do go to some of the car shows dotted around us and have the occasional run out together, last one was one of our Bristol members run to the Haynes museum in Somerset followed by a run back up to Bristol via the Chedder Gorge. Always welcome to join us on future outings.
