Mounting GoPro in Coupe

Hi All
I'm going to Spa next month for a track day and want to get some GoPro footage.
Struggling to think how to mount it.
I've been told attaching to the outside of the car isn't permitted by the track (not with suction cup at least).
Got several mounts and clamps - if it was a roadster could easily sort something on one of the roll hoops, but its a coupe so that's out.
Can't see one of the adhesive mounts sticking to dash very well (and concerned about being able to get if off again with minimal damage if it does stick!).
Have piano dash, but it's going to need a very long arm to have it reach up to se out the windscreen so cannot see it being stable enough.

I guess just sucker mount to the inside of the windscreen is only feasible option (guessing have to mount it upside down?) - unless any geniuses out there know something better?

I use one of the curved adhesive mounts on top of the bulkhead between the seats. Then I can see my hands in the video.

You mean right on the top? I was assuming all that would capture would be headlining, rear view mirror, and me (when what I really want is video of the circuit).
Does it still get enough view out of the windscreen? I think I'd prefer that to a sucker mount on the windscreen if you do.

I guess I could get off my lazy arse and go into the garage with the gopro and have a play before writing ideas off.

I had mine mounted between the seats but you don't see a great deal of road action.

Can you not use the suction mount on the inside of the windscreen?

Yeah, that's the only thing I can come up with. Thought it might be a bit bulky and in the way so wondered if anyone had better ideas.

I was really hoping that someone who has tried an adhesive sticky mount on the crackly surface of the dash may chip in and comment if that was successful. I thought that would be favourite, if:
A) it sticks
B) it comes off again when u want it to without leaving any damage or unremoveable stickiness behind
C) it sits high enough so you see more than just bonnet.

In fact the more I think about it suction cup to inside of the windscreen seems obvious choice. Can maybe mount it close enough behind the rear view mirror so I hardly see it.
I'll go out and have a play at the weekend.

Saw an M3/4 cant remember which with it mounted to the outside (c pillar) the other day. The wife was asking what it was..

There's a guy on Pistonheads that runs the http://www.hobbymounts.co.uk/ website. Fast and reliable and gives codes out sometimes for discounts.

Everything you would need to attach a GoPro to anything.

I bought a mount for the windscreen after the cheap Amazon version died.

You should also look into a skeleton housing for the GoPro as it allows you to power or charge the GoPro from the lighter socket. That along with a decent mic and maybe some spare SD cards.

I also bought the Wasabi Power Battery (2-Pack) and Dual Charger for GoPro Hero3, Hero3+ and GoPro AHDBT-201, AHDBT-301, AHDBT-302, AHBBP-301. This is a really good solution as it allows you to charge two batteries in two hours. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IAZWWDA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

Timelapse for the journey to Spa would be good.

The GoPro software allows you to flip the video before editing.

Might also be worth getting a selfie stick although I remember when they were just called sticks!

I've had mine attached to the windscreen, behind the mirror; to the passenger window, to the rear hatch window (not a great deal of track is shown though), and to a strap on my helmet.

If you're clever, you could mount it securely behind the lower grille.

I seem to remember Jan Tekin mounted his direct to the bonnet (near the front) using an external GoPro suction mount - very strong and no damage to paint

My son sells GoPro accessories at http://www.accessoryhero.co.uk/GoPro-Accessories, and on eBay. Might be a crap idea, but he has a backpack clip mount that could be fixed to the seatbelt. Or fix it to your shirt/jacket and get the instruments as well as the track. Or even the harness mount perhaps?

I mounted mine here:

Works perfectly for in car driving footage :)

This is the view from that mounting point;

if you use a slightly narrower fov it works even better :)

Thanks for posting those pictures. Confirms that it needs to go on the windscreen for what I'm after.

PerryGunn - yeah, suckered on the outside would have been my preferred option but I've been told that's a no go on the track.

Mmmm-five - was toying with the idea of fixing on my helmet. Thought that might also get a shot of the Rev counter and speedo which might be good. It would need to fix to the side of my lid tho rather than on top and it would stick out quite a bit.
Wish I had one of those sony ones that are better suited to the side of a helmet.

Well.
I know what I'm doing Saturday then.
Testing various things, and no doubt getting pointed at driving through town with people saying " why is that prick wearing a crash helmet in his car"

"Mummy, if he's so embarrassed being seen driving that car so much, why doesn't he just sell it and buy a roadster...?" :poke:

I mounted mine in front of the lower grill with a GoPro sticky mount. I passed a cable tie through the lower grill and around the narrow part of the GoPro casing to act as a safety belt. I got lots of track action and induction noise but it's very much like "C'etait un Rendezvous":

Otherwise, a GoPro mount readily sticks to the top of the dash. Just pay attention to where the wipers sit to ensure you can see past them, and don't let the casing sit too close to the windscreen or the trigger button at the top will vibrate against the glass creating an annoying tapping on the soundtrack. You'll have to zoom in to see it, I don't have pictures from inside I'm afraid:

I'm using two in-cabin positions:
- on top of the bulkhead between the seats (like stated by others before)
- in front of the navigation system bezel (see picture)

The still is from the bulkhead position with the GoPro in medium mode if I remember well

I used the curved base and mounted to the rear view mirror.

When the GoPro isn't attached you can't see it so very neat
