MOT time

All, just looking for some feedback.

MOT runs out on 9th Jan 09. New approved BMW warranty runs out on 10th Jan 09. Plan was to get the car MOT'd in the next week or two and then get any nessessary work thats not wear and tear carried out under the warrenty. Never had a car MOT'd before so not sure that if i get a new MOT test carried out before the 9th Jan and it fails does that mean the existing MOT is now invalid as the car is no longer classed as road worthy?

I've done the same in the past for my wife's car.

Had it tested about 2 weeks prior to the warranty running out for the same reason. The 2 weeks I 'think' is the grace period you get to fix issues?

you can get your mot up to a month before it runs out and they should extend it onto the existing period so a maximum of 13 months till the next one. If you have the approved BMW warranty you might also have MOT protection cover for if they find anything, hopefully it sails through though :)

BMW MOT cover... thats ace never noticed that bit, i do have it included in the approved used warrenty. Document says

"If you have an MOT test carried out within 12 months from the date of your car order (and no more than 30 days before the due MOT date), then your BMW MOT Cover will cover you against the unexpected costs of any necessary repair or replacement of specified components."

So will book it in for a date less than 30 days to the current MTO expires and all will be covered, nice one.

thanks all.

Also worth having a trawl through some of the more common issues on the problems pages too just encase, e.g. I have them paying for a new windscreen wiper assembly as I noticed mine didn't always park at the bottom correctly.

Also speak to the tester and get him to be real keen on any advisories. Just because something does not need fixing today to pass it may well in 3 months. They do however stay on file with new electronic MOT database so whatever shows up needs fixing

I have had advisiories on my wifes car for the last three years always for exhaust and brakes pads/disks, they never failed the following year although they havent bee replaced. At least the last two MOT's have been electronic.
