MOT time for the Golf, not done too many miles over the last 4 years :o

400 miles in 4 years :? is it really worth keeping MOT,d & taxed ?
I can understand not wanting to sell but why bother keeping it roadworthy if it doesn,t go out on it ? :?

If you don't, you can't :D

Wanted to take it out on sunday as the pub I was going to near Alfriston was down a narrow road, so not suitable for the Porsche. But with no MOT, could not do it.

Perhaps now the M has gone I will use it more for when it is sunny. Besides the lack of power steering, it is really nice to drive (not fast of course, just cruising).

You should have gone for it, it cant have deteriorated in any great way since your last mot. Having done 100 miles shouldn't affect its road worthiness P.
Besides, I understand using a vehicle on a road with no mot is dealt with by way of a fixed penalty ticket if its more than a month or more out, sixty pound fine and no points.
I am NOT advocating breaking the law by driving an unroadworthy vehicle just this specific situation.

Would it have an insurance impact though?

Bit of a rebel lately anyway as I still don't have a tax disc for my Porsche as they screwed up my plate transfer, so did not bother with the wrong tax disc 8)

Wait till you see the mileage of your old M next time it gets MOT'd... I'll warn you to sit down before I post it up

I haven't heard of a case where the boys in blue have seized a car for not being insured due to expired mot, giving you a fixed penalty notice is satiating enough for them but never say never my friend.

Tax disc issue would probably only be picked up by a traffic warden for an offence of failing to display it in a conspicuous position, other than that they will be aware that your car is taxed

Looks like the R32 GTR. Last year it's miles were to the test centre and back. A whole 26 miles. It'll do some more this year but kinda wondering why it's away for a £7k engine rebuild right now. That's the cost of keeping the car tip top

The MOT systems is a bit of a farce anyway, 10 years ago I had a blowing exhaust, 5 years ago the brakes only just passed and other things over the years.

Never did anything about any points they raised, and they have never come back on subsequent MOTs. All done at the same VW dealer as well. How can that ever be "right" that almost failings from 10 years ago never come back?

Probably why it only attracts a fixed penalty notice and no points, it used to be that they reported you for summons and then it was a day at magistrates court. Having said all this someone will probably post a completely different outcome

We had an advisory on the rear discs three years ago but nothing that last two years. I was even asked why we were changing the discs last time at the garage.
