So the Zed is due it's MOT in a week or so and I wanted to get a few jobs done at the same time.
Oil change (Castrol Edge Titanium)
MM tips fitted
Fang protectors fitted
Rear mud flap with nick out of it being replaced with one sourced from the forum. Thanks Andy as they don't sell these any more.
So all is good and I am looking forward to getting these jobs all done.
Then at the weekend coming back from a wee run out I got a warning light for a faulty light. It was one of the Xenons and after swapping over the igniters and bulbs I have found that it is the ballest :x
So after finding out and failing to think my way around the problem I have accepted that it is a bumper off job. So because of this I am going to get it re sprayed as it coincides with me being away with work and the extra couple of days won't matter. I'll also get the air ram fitted when the bumper is off as a bonus.
I have all the parts but I have a couple or three of questions. Bear with me as these are many :roll:
1. After fitting the new ballest can I protect the new ballest from water ingress by some means (bag, sealing spray)?
2. As the bumper is off should I replace the working ballest on the other side as access is easy?
3. I have a new set of front and rear discs and pads in case needed for the MOT but the brakes still feel great. I have measured the front and they now measure 25.8mm with lots of meat left on the pads. Should I replace? I am sure the Zed is on it's first set so this set will last for years I expect anyway. Trying to get every last bit is pointless, right? The only thing I am thinking about is I have the Braemar hoon a week after fitting the new brakes if I do it and I want to break them in properly and not damage them at £700 a set!
4. As the bumper is off and being repainted should I get the front armoured by a clear wrap etc? The painter and a mechanic friend both say that it looks weird and doesn't polish well but......? Anyone done it? It makes sense to me as long as the finish is okay.
I would appreciate your honest views and advice guys. I need to make my mind up by the weekend really and in the case of the ballest I only have one coming and would need to order tomorrow if going for replacing both sides.
