MOT preparing

So my car is due it’s MOT tomorrow. It’s never failed an MOT yet and only had two advisories regarding tyres.

I have planned the service for my leave period and a few preventative items as the car is near 13 years old despite only 31000 miles when I bought it in October 23. It’s now at 38000 and being used as it should.

I’ve always changed oil at 7-8k as I do drive the car on long runs. The original vehicle order was long service which every owner from new has ignored and had it serviced annually even though it only did 5-600 miles average.

So I wanted to code the service interval to reflect my intentions. I know I could have just kept records but I like to tinker.

The first problem was I’m not confident with NCSExpert or Esys so I needed a guided way until I learn to use them.

I went with advice fro B21 which was ProTool and it was a 15 min operation bearing in mind this included my learning of the App. I now have ISTA + too for research. Full tool kit😎👍

Now all good as once you change the VO it guides you as to what needs coding and then does it😎👍

Next was oil change and spark plugs with new coils. All ordered from AutoDoc. NGK and Delphi.

Then all four wheels off, cleaned, balance weights removed and rebalanced(I lost a weight so best go from scratch). Then ceramic coated inside and out.

All suspension inspected then cleaned and then coated with XCP rust blocker.

Both Hall sensors on the right side boot ram replaced so hopefully no more roof bong.

Brakes fully replaced and callipers rebuilt and painted graphite grey with new genuine springs.

Now just the test. Fingers crossed. Results tomorrow 😬

I’ve checked everything but don’t want to ruin its good history as its new owner. But thank you👍

If only every Zed had this treatment..

What have you coded the oil, change interval too?

Yes mate. 12 months/8K VO first then suggested modules FRM and DMU. 👍

PS. Went with Master license so it’s fully functional. Superb bit of kit with excellent support 👍

Results tomorrow

Good luck  I`m sure it will fly through :) I see there is a BMW specialist in Whitchurch called PA Roberts . Have you ever used them ?

Most MOT places will run it through a pre-MOT for you - basically a full MOT but without actually logging it on the system.

I haven’t because I called in one day. Looked like any other used car sales and nobody about. Nothing stood out as special. If I need special, I will visit the Zed Shed.

Which is a shame as it’s walking distance

Ok it was just a thought if anything happened to the guy I take mine to
I think he specialises on selling not repairing. But he/she sells anything. Nothing filled me with confidence. 👍

All passed. No advisories reputation upheld 😎👍
It's a good feeling isn't it? Our E89 passed with no advisories (again) last week. Id don't go to quite the trouble you do, but always check the obvious before taking them (brakes, lights, suspension and the all important silly headlight washers).
I always clean my cars well before taking for an MOT, including the insides of the wheels. I have a theory that if it looks well kept to the tester, they are not going to look too hard for faults. It also makes their life easier if they can easily see everything they need to check which makes them more inclined to go easy on it. Just a theory, not sure if it's true.

. Same theory mate. Presentation is key. If it looks well presented then generally it’s maintained. However if it’s wrong, it’s wrong. As I drive my car 300 miles a week, I want to know it’s safe.

I just like thing right and clean. Easier for me to see any issues 😎👍

My car was put down as fail due headlight aim?
They put it right and passed it, so now all these history checkers show a fail...thanks mot station.

Ridiculous.

Does make me angry that. If they know it can be fixed with adjustments then it should be done there and then. Did they charge you for the adjustment?
