More roof diagnostics help please!

Roof failed last week - Roof movement impaired warning

So far have replaced Salmon relays but no change

Decided to try removing Smarttop module to eliminate that as a cause - after reconnecting the original wiring I am now getting - Hardtop controller has failed warning

If I reinstall Smarttop it goes back to Roof movement impaired warning
Smarttop error light (red) is also flashing

Any ideas what to try next?

OK so it seems the original plug needed quite a bit of force to relocate - so now i am back to Roof Movement Impaired with the Smarttop removed

What next - microswitches?

Did you get a code reader? That should give some clues.

Now the smart top is removed and ruled out, take to a dealer for a diagnosis. You could try to find and replace but you may end up stripping the boot out if you don’t know which switch or wire it is.

A proper code reader will pinpoint the switch. (The BMW software version they use will anyway)
