Is there any real difference between the extended performance and the standard Mobil 1?
I see they are offering a $10 gift card with 6 qts between 9/1 - 11/30. Gift card

DON'T SKIMP ON YOUR OIL.

Does 'extended performance M1' conform to the BMW Spec.?
If you are going to use Mobil 1, M1 Full Synthetic 5w30. It is conforms to the BMW Spec.

Or if you have an ///M, 10W60, I think... I don't have a ///M so I am not sure of the weight.

There are many things you can skimp on, but your engines blood is not one of them....

Not sure it's worth the extra, the normal stuff is excellent . On the subject of ///M oil i have heard a story that you should only use the recommended castrol stuff or there is a fair chance of engine damage ???, not sure if thats correct..

An oil changing regimen has 3 variables:

1. The Oil
2. The Filter
3. The Interval Between Changes

The Oil: Analyzed into the ground. Flipped upside down, held up to a bright light, and analyzed into the ground again. (rinse, repeat).

The Filter: Not that many manufacturers. Many filters differ only by the name on the outside.

The Interval: Always the most overlooked of the three. It's simple. More often = better. Even if you have the most wunderbar oil and filter on the planet, accumulated particles in the oil will be putting a big hurt on your engine if the oil is not changed. This includes tiny pieces of metal - some ferrous, some not. (re: magnets). No filter will grab all of them. I cannot fathom changing at 15k intervals vs. 3-5k. A great many 'manufacturer's recommendations' should be 'highlighted' with a black permanent marker.
