Mixing tyres...

I need two new rears... can't think why..

Im only gonna replace the rears, the fronts are contis.. is it a real issue to have conti's on the front and PS2's on the rear? £210ea from blackcircles.com and the Conti's are 160... I'm not gonna swap the fronts yet cause theyre fine.

For the price difference im tempted to just get two more Conti's and enjoy burning them, hoping the fronts are bald by then too..

Obviously if money was no object It'd be easy, but I plan on buying the second car this weekend so I'm not throwing any more money at getting from A - B, no matter how quick or frugal.

I'd recommend plan B
get another pair of Conti's now, then the next time you'll need both f & r.
Then, get the PS2s

Well I don't supose putting the PS2's on the rear will cause any real issues, it might understeer a bit though...

by the way, ive seen references to it but didn't see a thread specifically, but obviously the Conti's came higher in the Evo test last month than the PS2s. I absolutely trust the opinions of people on here (who I dont know...lol) to make me spend the extra, but not everyone can be right =)

I had the same problem a couple of months ago.
My rear conti's had given up the ghost (finally!! :wink: ) but I still had plenty of tread left on the fronts.
I decided on a new set of Toyo Proxes T1-R's, but would initially only replace the rears.
The car handled like an absolute pig, it felt like I was driving on a greasy road most of the time.
I assumed the tyres had to be driven for a few hunred miles before it would all sort itself out, but it didnt.
Eventually I replaced the fronts to the Toyo's as well and the car felt better than ever.
My advise: Never mix tyres!

Been there -- dont ever mix tyres - its a recipe for disaster.

Agreed, don't mix your tyres. You will destroy the balance and handling of your car. The tyre comparison in EVO was for the Contisport Contact 3 not for the substandard OEM Contisports that came on the cars. In any case tyres have different characteristics depending on what cars they are fitted to and tests such as this should be considered with that in mind IMO.

i bought two new contis anyway.. im gonna just enjoy burning them quickly before i get the PS2s early summer..
